Now more than ever (go hire it), I feel justified in pointing you at the works of @mavica_again@computerfairi.es, the first true sibling I ever had and someone whose continued efforts to understand and inhabit themselves have taught me more in three years than I learned in 20+ years of therapy. That sort of mutual vulnerability and solidarity gives me an added appreciation for its works. At its site https://maple.pet you may see a lovingly curated, meticulously coded (seriously, view the source) showcase of its art, music, writing, and tech projects – all legitimately great – framed in an aesthetic that hearkens to an era when "computers were good". You would see correctly (and you should hire it). But what I cherish is something beneath its work, connecting it all: a relentless drive to understand itself, to construct an authentic and breathing avatar of its strange and magnificent mind, to find a place for itself in the world that reflects its values and its cares. Its work synthesizes those desires into artifacts that can be shown and shared and heard and used. Every one of those interactions is a way of saying Do You See Me? Do You Understand? I've never felt a stronger solidarity with someone who makes things, and it helps that the things it makes are really fucking good. I'm proud to call it "sister", and you should hire it. https://maple.pet

@bignose@fosstodon.org I have 3 years experience working with codebases older than me for embedded devices in the financial field (Card machines, ISO8583), 10 years experience building full-stack microservice solutions (APIs and front-ends). I cannot be hired in the UK where I currently physically am no matter how well I fit into a job because no companies can bother sponsoring a work visa, so I'm going to have to move back to my home country where I don't want to live, and in my home country there are no jobs that are internationally remote for me to continue living in the UK, where my fiancée is and needs me to be because she's disabled. The only solution is thousands of pounds in applying for multiple catch-22 visas (one to marry, one after married) which we can't afford so we're currently in a stalemate unless I can find income.

I'm at the end of my rope. I desperately need to build a substantial fund to continue living and move forward with bureaucracies to allow myself any my fiancée a decent life. The only reason I cannot get a full time job anymore is there are no companies willing to hire me despite my qualifications. If you know anything you can throw towards someone who has extensive knowledge of embedded systems, graphic design, user interfaces, web development, music composing, pixel art, documentation writing and more, please tell me. I have a portfolio at https://mynameiser.in and I really need to add more stuff I've done to it but it's a start for now. #fedihire #fedihired #getfedihired #mutualaid
