@pup_hime oh my gosh
holy crap
I...
that's AMZING. That's so friggin daft and absolutely a marketing ploy like "shit we can't sell this if we tell the truth, let's say it's a TURBO button and that it's getting double the speed of the computer!"
@pup_hime oh heck I am definitely up for learning some truth about turbo buttons. *bounces excitely* tell me more please??
@Alyx of course these days they're probably completely unnecessary since basically I'm pretty sure 99% of people who owned a pc with a turbo button just left the damn thing constantly in turbo mode anyway. because...
gotta go fast
@Alyx I THINK what the deal was is that typically this was around the time when the maximum speed of a pc was like... 25 mhz or something. maybe 66 tops... So I guess to preserve cpu lifetime (because most chips didn't need/use heatsinks or fans and were okay with passive cooling from jsut their surface) they underclocked the cpu by default, sothe cases often had a Turbo Switch that would ramp it up to full speed??
that's just my theory tho
@BatElite oh my gosh <3
@Nine What did it do? Repeatedly fire every keyboard key?
@Alyx buton make comptuerbox go fast
@AzureHusky *"we're up all night to pet pupy" repeated over and over masterfully autotuned to the song that is playing*
@kara that is an exceptionally strange quiche
@LottieVixen ratties are so good and cute. mice are also smol and cute but yes a bit smellier. there are tiny li'l mousie poops under my radiator where they're coming from D: Gonna have to figure out how to clean that up
