so the most recent update to No Man's Sky is an excellent place to start playing if you like the social aspects of games - there's a new roadtrip-esque game mode where all players start on the same planet, and have to complete goals and win prizes while traveling to the finish line.
These goals you have to complete, when done in order, are basically a tutorial with pizzazz, and the rewards are usually items that make it so you don't ever need to grind - like, just *going* to a red star rewards you with tons of the metal you usually mine from red systems, so you don't have to land and mine, you can just pass through and check it off the list. So, you're spending all of your time actively playing the game and learning new systems.
And that leads to the best part - NMS has always been difficult to figure out the basics of, for a lot of people. Often all that works is someone explaining things in real time. In this mode, since everyone is following the same route, you'll be surrounded by other players who can help you. Chat reaches everyone in the same star system, so it's no trouble for them, either.
After this event is over, in two months, your Expedition mode profile will just turn into a regular mode profile, so you don't lose any of the awesome endgame stuff you earned when you start playing the game normally, and you'll be fully prepared.
If the reason you'd like NMS is the solitude and vastness, avoid this mode like the plague. But for social players this is perfect.
re: Frameshifted (E:D minifics of me playing through it right now)
I figure okay, i'll just jump to the nearest station, refuel, reload, repair, and try again aaaandthis system has two stations miles apart and the nearest one does not have any facilities to reequip my ship or reload my weaponry . ...
Renalia: 凸(⇀‸↼‶)凸 *abandons mission*
re: Frameshifted (E:D minifics of me playing through it right now)
It's okay! I got loads of cash to pay the insurance on the Antilles. (my ship, the Cobra mk 3, because it's a big ol' Wedge. get it? ;D ) . I'll just fly right back there and toast their asses THIS time. There should only be two left anyway!
So I jump back in, aaaaaand four ships jump in. again.
Renalia: ಠ ̯ ಠ
Renalia: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I do my best but don't even kill ONE of them before I am at 2% hull. I manage to escape tho!
re: Frameshifted (E:D minifics of me playing through it right now)
Okay, okay, it's not so bad, I can take these guys, they're in Sidewinders and Eagles, it'll be fiiiineeeee.
"SHIELDS DOWN" "CAUTION: TAKING HULL DAMAGE"
Renalia: つ(´・ω ・` )
I manage to take out one.. then two ships! This is great!
Renalia: ヾ(  ̄▽)ゞ
Aaaand then my ship explodes because I had like 4% hull left after the second ship ate missile.
re: Frameshifted (E:D minifics of me playing through it right now)
Flying off there, I find the mission objective after a little searching around, and it's saying "Threat 2" ... A little suspicious, can't be THAT bad tho, surely. So I drop in, find a TON of salvage floating about...
Renalia: σ( ̄、 ̄=)・・・ ¯\\( ̄▽ ̄)/¯
Four ships jump in immediately upon me even getting CLOSE to one of the salvages.
Renalia: ∑( ゚Д゚);;;;;;
Frameshifted (E:D minifics of me playing through it right now)
Just took a mission to recover some black boxes as salvage from another system, which pays a fair bit, but the combat difficulty says "Mostly Harmless".
Renalia: =_=? ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *clicks accept*
I mean, what's the WORST that could happen?
asking for money help, boosts+++
hey we got rent paid thanks to a university grant that i don't have to pay back! and thanks to everyone who helped out!
but now we still need food and travel money until the 11th
i'm open for all commissions (check my pinned) and ko-fi donations are always welcome
i can't currently work full time as i'm immunocompromised and covid would probably kill me so i want to work on art things if i can.
we're a couple of disabled, trans lesbians in the uk and everything feels kinda shitty right now so if anyone could help us again that would be awesome
"The target's around here somewhere, we've just got to find them. Apparently they're flying around in a fairly basic but well armed Cobra mk III"
"what's their name?"
"Looking it up now... Commander Renalia... Apparently we'll know when we find them?"
"what the hell does that mean?"
"...hold up, I've got a message from someone a-...what the hell?"
"What's it say?"
"...some kind of emotico-OH GOD HOLY SHIT IT'S- *Ksssh!!*"
"Captain?!... Captain do you read??"
*bzzt* "ʘ‿ʘ"
"...oh FU-"
my commander doesn't speak. They communicate through emoticons at people in my mind.
like, I feel like I could probably do that as a bit in game if I played with others, lol. I'd have to like, build up a huge library of various complex emoticons and hopefully the ingame chat would let me do so but...
can just imagine my commander coming in, scowling at the person who greets them, like "Greetings commander, it's a pleasure to have you at our station. Now, election time is coming up a-...uh... ...i...is... is everything... okay??"
and my commander just thrusts a data pad at them with the sign off for transporting two tons of cobalt to them, and just STAARREES angrily, pointing at the signature demandingly until they sign it, and take the cargo.
Then just storms off. lol
currently cruising at 600c .
600.
starting to gradually slow down because I'm halfway there yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay \o/ ;w;
I see you favving that @outie :3
and like me you're probably imaginign like, a cutscene of the player character rounding a corner all casual like, seeing a huge bridge, and just like... deflating, facepalming. and then they hold up a hand, counting down from three to one, and RIGHT on cue, a dragon flies overhead, lands on the battlements opposite and roars threateningly, and they just throw their hands up in exasperation because OF COURSE there's a fucking dragon.
like, god, why. like, you could stick a major trade station near the nav beacon, or at least within like, a minute flight.
nope. gona put the nearest station like way the fuck out around this OTHER star a solid hour's flight away, coulda just built it near the nav-beacon so it wouldn't take forever to get to but noooope.
I mean sure you've got "horse but hole" and "don't give up, skeleton!" from actual darksouls games but that's IN SPITE of the seriousness of it, and like, the game should absolutely lean into the ridiculousness.
yeah i'm moving over to chitter.xyz now. Soooo go there! I'm there now.
