Trans rights are under threat. This is โa road test for authoritarianismโ in the US, says Imara Jones, as the GOP is working to โdemonize and stigmatize an entire group of people in order to build the type of society that religious zealots want.โ #velshi http://ow.ly/gX7n50NgeBx
We enjoyed several #monarch butterflies last year. The milkweed all survived the winter, so we're looking forward to more this year. This one crawled onto my hand to expand its wings and let them harden - it tested my patience to hold still that long.
My cartoon in today's @NZStuff & in print The Dominion Post and Waikato Times and syndicated across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Another devastating loss for people displaced by Cyclone Gabriel.

QAnon manages to fold nearly everything in the news into their conspiracy theories, so that's just business as usual for them.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Says Feds Wonโt Bail Out Silicon Valley Bank

(QAnon thinks this is evidence proving their conspiracy about the entire banking systemโs imminent collapse, so thatโs annoying, but whatever

8 years of missing you, Dad. This photo makes me laugh because itโs so decidedly un-Pratchetty. Weโre looking in the same direction & thereโs hugging (ish.) Itโs the kind of pic that, in a movie, one or other of us would look at wistfully before tooling up to go rescue the other one #GNUTerryPratchett #speakhisname
If you gave billionaires 2 trillion in tax cuts 4 years ago, YOU need to pay your bills. You donโt get to leave the poor and working families holding the bag. #VoteBlue2024
If your friend is offended by it, he/she should say something. If I said that to one of my friends, we'd both laugh about it.
In a contract review meeting with a new-but-well-known company wanting to buy something from the company I work for:
Me: This section on data deliverables is vague. It says you want data delivered with each item, but it doesn't define what data you want.
Them: Oh, you know, just what you'd normally put in.
Me: Contracts are usually pretty detailed about this. Are there any specific requirements?
Them: Um, not really. Just whatever would normally be delivered.
Yeah. Sure.
I'm somewhat jealous (but not too much, because I never had to worry about income.) I work in what was defined as a "critical industry", so we never closed.
I did get two 14-day "work from remote" stints, before the vaccine and tests were available.
I just realized that today is the third anniversary of our first day in โquarantineโ when my husband and I mostly just put on dumb outfits and got as weird as possible to kill time.
We lived in a tiny condo and our only outdoor space was our parking space, so weโd go have picnics in our parking space or use it to pretend like we were on vacation in Vegas to terrify our friends by making them think we were being super reckless.
We also bought a selfie stick to pretend like we were on vacation in our tiny apartment which is pretty much the only way Iโd ever justify using a selfie stick.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
