When I was growing up in Utah, the debate centered around "offerings".
Do you pay 10% of your net? Or 10% of your gross? Do you pay tithing on social security income? How much extra should you pay on Fast Sunday (a monthly thing)?
It's all about giving your money to the church. Because rewards in heaven, and god is watching, and all that.
