When you're sitting there with chocolate-smeared lips, and a lap full of cookie crumbs, it's nearly impossible to lie about who stole the cookies. Well, lie convincingly, anyway.

@btaroli @stephenczetty @cinja @cadenza @actuallyautistic exactly. I'd always felt very guilty and shameful bc I'd learned a simplistic (catholic) view of "lying". there are so many values and needs that sit higher on the priority list than thinking about how closely our language-based communication "matches" the truth as it's accepted by an oppressive system and the moral majority

dammit

then there's lying about how stole the cookies, which is never acceptable

I'm now doing UNIX administration (not full time) for more than 25 years. And yet only today I learned about a cli tool called "comm". 🀯

Ever needed to know which lines in a text file are not in another file , or which are in both?

comm A B compares two sorted text files and outputs three columns: one with lines only in A, one with lines only in B and one only with lines in both files.

And you can switch off each column with cli arguments.

I want the years back I fought with shell scripts!

It might be called the β€œsafety dance” but somehow I put two people in the hospital while attempting it.

@kevinrns Musk is one of the cogs in a global RW fascist insurgency. This is a global emergency

A barred jungle owlet gets a very different perspective on the world! πŸ¦‰

Owls have eyes that cannot turn and only face forward, so to compensate, their necks are constructed to swivel nearly 270 degrees in order to allow them to assess their environment.

@BigAngBlack threw out a prompt for great fathers. I don't know if my father was "great," not sure what that would mean but he was a good father. He did his best during a time when all Black men were catching hell daily but particularly Black men who had his darker complexion. He got up every day, went to work and helped my mom build a strong family.

Not weirdly. NASA wants new things - things that haven't been done before. I'm working a program now that had a development phase, a prototype phase, and now we're in the flight phase. If they'd come to us with a fixed-cost proposal for all that, we'd have replied with a no-bid. There's no way to bid it. Instead they gave us an NTE (not to exceed), which gives us latitude to experiment and figure it out.

@ScottSoCal Interesting results in this poll β€” a very clear winner but lots of love for each of the shows.

@CultureDesk

Discovery is a very close second, but Anson's grin and pompadour have to take first place.

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" debuted today on Paramount+ "and its glorious return is most welcome," says NPR's Eric Deggans. Here's his full review (some spoilers): npr.org/2023/06/15/1182335025/

Which of the new generation of "Star Trek" shows do you think is the best? [disclaimer: Our poll settings only allow for four answers β€” if you love something else, tell us in the comments!]
