Arthur Walker, Jr, had a big, often-overlooked influence in space science. He pioneered using x-rays to study activity on the Sun, led the Challenger investigation, and opened opportunities for underrepresented groups in astronomy. skyandtelescope.org/astronomy- #Juneteenth #BlackInStem

"we were made to feel as if it was something that happened in the Jurassic age"

Yup, way back in the olden days. But when I learned about it, there were people alive that had been born as slaves.

"Slavery existed for 250 years in this country, and it’s only not existed for 150. And, you know, the way that I was taught about slavery, growing up, in elementary school, we were made to feel as if it was something that happened in the Jurassic age, that it was the flint stone, the dinosaurs and slavery, almost as if they all happened at the same time."

I ate half an apple pie yesterday. And I'm not even ashamed. Well, not very ashamed, anyway.
It was good pie.

Oh my god, game algorithm. It was 3 pounds! Just 3 POUNDS over a long weekend! So what's with the onslaught of Oprah weight loss gummy ads?? And how do you even know -- it's a manual scale??? 😳

He is very happy, and with gentle guidance and positive reinforcement, nothing punative, he finally potty trained. That's probably why he was so abused. Sadly, many people don't know how to gently train a resistant puppy.

When I bought my electronic shower (yes, that's a real thing) it had a bug that popped up. I worked up to the third tier of tech support (the programmers) and told them it looked like a firmware bug. They didn't like that, they wanted failing hardware. We gradually replaced all the hardware, a piece at time, until I had a brand new shower. And the bug. Turned out it was a firmware issue. 😲
They fixed it, and it hasn't come back, fortunately.

@ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic That's great. I've contacted a-company-that-shall-not-be-named about a bug.

They fixed it.

Then the bug came back.

They fixed it.

Then the bug came back.

They fixed it.

Then the bloody bug came back.

My last interaction with them was to tell them that the bug is back and that maybe they should ask their engineers if they've ever heard of "regression testing."

(For those who don't know: regression testing is a way to make sure that bugs that have been fixed don't come back.)

I picture something very different when I think of tighty whities.

You'll never go broke appealing to the prejudices and ignorance of the dominant group and telling them nothing ever has to change.
