Ya know, I don't really mind the "automatic reaction" part, it's the dwelling on it for days afterward, replaying the moment it went sideways, and thinking of what *should* have happened.
I know these rules in theory, and sometimes in practice, but I'm always messing up in live conversation @FrightenedRat.
There's just too much to process for me to remember these things, especially when dealing with strangers or several people at once.
I've unfortunately internalised a lot of the judgement involved, so every time I catch myself "interacting wrong" I have to deal with the automatic reaction of shame and embarrassment.
Regardless of whether you were diagnosed early or later in life, you may have spent years suppressing your autistic identity and conforming to neurotypical norms. Our focus will be on self-advocacy, unmasking, and cultivating self-care and self-regulation techniques.
Let's embark on this empowering journey together! My #ActuallyAutistic workshops are built in order to create community and bring together like-minded autistic people looking to grow their autistic self. We are all looking to find or get further in touch with our inner lives and unmask and live authentically.

This will sound sarcastic, but it's not. I handle it by discouraging people from sharing personal issues. As long as we're sticking to things that are business related, I'm on known ground.
A friend inspired me to share some of my personal poetry & short stories.
It's ironic, of course, that I share so much here with you all here and even more with those I work with, but I still have felt that this part of my life cannot be shared.
Here goes nothing....

Hard.

Ayn Rand is the 1Bth retelling of the classic story of someone who had bad things happen when they were children, and never got over it.
She's also reason 14,827 why I think Nietzsche is a drunken idiot.
Of course they don't - that would be silly. They have nowhere to hold their wallets.
I wrote a mini-novel positioned 5 years after an alien species "conquered" Earth by providing replicators that gave everyone anything they want, for free, and automated medical equipment that cured any disease or injury, then they left. It brought about the complete collapse of society and governments. A new society was just beginning to form. Sort of.

@melivia @ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic I had a copy of the writer's guide for Voyager, and it's full of stuff that never makes it into the shows -- for one thing, it emphasizes that writers should avoid nerding out on the details.
One of the details that struck me is that most of the volume of Starfleet ships is empty, and can be filled in quickly with modular units as needed for a given mission.
I had to make a lot of assumptions while doing it. I assumed each of the sections is self-contained, and required a series of decks for power, air circulation, etc. Deck height of 4 meters, allowing piping, ductwork, infrastructure outside of living space. Same for "columns" between decks - Jeffries tubes - to allow access and maintenance. It still left a big chunk of real estate.

This whole thing about nuclear trains reminds me of something I got caught up in a while ago. I'm a Trekkie, and I ran across a diagram of a starbase, with dimensions (based on size in relationship to ship, etc.). I started a spreadsheet, it got more and more complex.
Those things are HUGE. 2,000 acres of parkland. Hundreds of millions of square feet in deck space. Nominal population of over 2,000,000 people, and that's with low population density. I still have it, somewhere.
A big part of masking is often eating things you don't actually like in my experience. NT people can get really angry if you don't eat something they made, and often are aggressive if you split up food and only eat parts.
Eating is often a very sensitive topic, and for many people is often a very stressful time. If it isn't for you, please try to remember to always be careful and think about what you say.
On top of that, a lot of people love focusing on food when gathering together. Going out for coffee, a dinner-date, and the movies, are just a few examples. This may be excluding some people who get stressed in these types of situations, so it might be a good idea to keep other ideas/suggestions ready.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing.
