A long time ago I visited Auschwitz. The guide was a former inmate who had a number tattooed on his arm. I saw the gas chambers, the ovens, the piles of belongings. @patwashburn If you haven't already read it, Project Hail Mary, by Andy Wier, is a fantastic read.
Guy wakes up in what appears to be a hospital room with two desiccated bodies and a computer that's no help at all, with no memory of who he is, why he's there, or what he's supposed to be doing. Everything unfolds from there.
I spoke to a retired educator about the importance of teaching kids accurate US history. They lamented, "A student told me our military has raped & pillaged people in poor countries. I was horrified he said such misinformation. I sat him down & corrected him."
Y'allβ& I say this as the brother of a US Marineβour standard must be justice. Acknowledging that members of the US military committed such atrocity isn't anti-Americanβbut what true Patriotism looks like. Let's demand justice above all.
@derekvanvliet John needs to apply that to himself. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the lights on in his office, well after midnight. And he's always first one in, every morning.
Avatar: The way of water. Loved it. Will buy it on disc when it comes out. Will definitely watch it again. So glad we went to the theater with reclining seats and that serve food (actual food) to your seat. The Brunch Burger, truffle fries, and liter of water got me through the 3+ hours.
