Extrapolating from a single data point (Earth) is sketchy, but I lean in the direction of yes, there's other life, and other intelligent life, out there. It seems unlikely that it only happened here. Earth just isn't that special or different.

I would add critical thinking - the ability to sift through information, separate fact from opinion, and form a hypothesis based on data.
