Ass written, these laws are indistinguishable from the old laws that got trans people arrested and jailed. Anyone wearing "gender inappropriate" clothing - as determined by the arresting cop - is in violation of the law. If a trans persons DL says Male, and they're wearing a dress, that's illegal. Doesn't matter if they're just shopping for groceries.

Black soldiers were written out of the GI Bill because the language of the law left it up to the states for administration. Both Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier both enlisted through New York, where Jim Crow was not active. Most Black people lived in the South, where Jim Crow was.
Two thirds of Black veterans were from the South. One thing to understand about US racism, is anytime you leave something "up to the states," Black people are going to get cheated.
Hallmark needs to make a card for that.

A very good sign, from a #Democratic win in a #SpecialElection in #NewHampshire yesterday .
This clear, blue victory follows a tie between the same 2 candidates just 3 months ago and a failed effort not to have an election at all by some Republicans in New Hampshire.
Itβs another victory for local grassroots efforts and for organizations like #PostcardsToVoters which ran a campaign for this race. And of course, a victory for the district.
