I've realized the reason I didn't like DS9 as much as TNG or Voyager was because of the "gritty reality" they tried to put into it. Principles are more guidelines, and they can be ignored when they're not convenient. Starfleet has a slimy basement called Section 31. In the innocent days of when we thought the worst thing that could happen in Canadian politics was multiple prorogations, there was a beautiful, respectful FB group who tried to just try and enjoy life. Our biggest schism was Brussel Sprouts. You were always classified as pro or con. If some disagreement occurred in the group, it was always put down to "of course you think that way, you like/dislike brussel sprouts ". (I was pro BS, btw).
