I'm curious why does mastodon (& I assume the Fediverse) not really use or value stars β? I've had it explained that they don't do anything (then why have them?) But more to the point would you eat at a place that had ZERO stars β on TripAdvisor?

And I'm seeing news reports that Ukraine security services have detained a guy who helped deliberately target that busy restaurant for the Russians.
Inhuman.
Russiaβs strike on Kramatorsk city center kills at least 9 people, including 3 children
Russian forces attacked a bustling pizza restaurant in the center of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, on June 27, 2023. At least nine people, including three children, have been killed and 56 injured.

@its-sal @actuallyautistic @retronautickz @hosford42 Funny how trans rights has become a sort of "canary" topic to check whether somebody is problematic in a lot of other ways as well. Seems often to be the case.

Significant sleep problems, getting worse as I get older.
@actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics I've had insomnia for a long time, but my insomnia progressively required more and more support. My problems were cranked to 11 with my cancer. Nothing worked (medicine, therapy, blah blah blah) until I got a new bed, but I still have periods that are less than optimal or flat out bad. I don't mean one odd bad night. It is more like a week or more.
One thing I've noticed is that my needs appear to change. I'm fine with hugging my squishmallow, then I have to stop or I cannot sleep. I'm fine with white noise, then I have to stop using white noise, or I cannot sleep. I'm fine with my ears free from earplugs, then I have to use earplugs or I can't sleep.
It is maddening mainly due to the trial and error aspect of it.
Is it something that other autistic people experience?

Depends on the trip. Business travel can take a couple of weeks to recover and get my balance back. Face-to-face meetings, full masking/camouflage all day, every day. It's exhausting. Personal trips, with no schedule and no agenda can be recovered in just a couple of days - enjoying being in my bed, in my house, with my stuff exactly how I like it.
How long does it take my #ActuallyAutistic comrades to recover from traveling somewhere away from home?

"fear of disability and vulnerability and projection of everything we are afraid of being ourselves, onto those who are "disabled" or needing care and compassion"
I hate my own meltdowns - they feel like I'm out of control. It's threatening when I see that in someone else, and I distance myself from it. I'm trying to wrap my head around that, so I can do better.

βI grew up in a world based on a social contract that I was not pre-briefed on, and I just realized these rules made no sense,β Grimm told The Hill. βIt just seems to me as an autistic person that neurotypical [non-autistic] worldviews accept premises without reason, like pink is for girls, blue is for boys β¦ I just realized these rules made no sense.β

If it turns out you need to cover the yelling part, I recommend warm tea with lemon and honey to soothe your throat.
My boss: With the termination of [douchey marketing guy] I might need to ask you to help with some of the things he did.
My brain: *he did stuff besides yelling at everyone for not using the exact hex codes from our branding guide?*
My mouth: Sure
Can't wait to see what this is going to entail. Will I be the one to finally unravel the mysteries of what we paid that guy to do for 15 years?
Today marks the 54th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion. 54 years ago, members of the LGBTQ+ protested for our right to be seen, heard, and protected. It was a moment in time that forever transformed the gay liberation movement.

Hooray for her changing her mind, but here in the US we tend to associate the "nothing is real or valid until it affects me personally" viewpoint with the worst of the Republicans.
