Hey #filmphotgraphy folk: I'm struggling to effectively process and invert my negatives. I do not have Adobe and I don't really want to get sucked into their model for my hobby. What do you recommend? Darktable is powerful but imposing, I can't really wrap my head around its UI

@scalzi

OK, I get that there are only so many places you can visit, and you're scheduled to travel to Budapest, but why are you not coming to my town?
😈

Hey, whatcha doing in September? Because I'm going on a book tour then, and if I'm coming to your town, you should totally come see me, and maybe get a book signed and stuff. The link below has places, dates, times and links to ticketing, plus all the other information you need to know. See you there!

Overheard 2 businessmen discussing corporate office changes so that employees "won't feel like just a cog in a machine."

They came up with these 'great' strategies:

- Rearrange the cubicles
- Art on the walls
- Seat managers closer to employees
- More team fun events

Notably not discussed:

- More pay
- Profit sharing
- More ownership of decisions & input
- Recognition of employee successes
- More PTO and/or work-life flexibility
- WFH options

Good luck guys! πŸ˜†

OK, I can work with that. I've started calling it camouflaging, because that's what I've tried to do my whole life - fit in/blend in.

But going off on a tangent from your post - how many of us unconsciously adopt accents or unique phrases when we travel? Just sitting here thinking about it, it seems like it could be a common autistic trait. We work so hard to blend in that we don't always know when to turn that circuit off.

@actuallyautistic

@ScottSoCal Same. However I get only the odd funny look. Maybe it’s my resting bitch-face and the fact thatI’m 6’1”.

[Let’s see how. This goes down on here - as when I last put it on Twitter I was dogpiled:]

Wear a mask. Covid is not over yet and never will be until *we* do something about it.

@ivy

With the postscript that Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise, it's an abomination.

No one ever teaches us what to say to someone who is dying or has chosen to die. Just speak from your heart, write a eulogy and read it, sit in quiet contemplation, whatever seems best, but just showing up is half the battle.

You may be emotional, afraid of crying, lost for words - just do it. I've lost three relatives when I didn't, I was too afraid or just assumed they knew how I felt. I regret it to this day.

RIP second mum 😒

This will be a major storyline of the next year: how #Ukraine fatigue, or outright opposition to Ukrainian victory, will play a role in the 2024 presidential campaign.

Fighting this β€˜Ukraine fatigue’ is one of the reasons The Counteroffensive exists in the first place.

We believe that by writing compelling, human-first stories about people going through the news, we can keep interest and public attention on this terrible conflict.

We hope you’ll keep supporting and reading us as the war continues on.

Today’s Dog of War are these pups that congregated along the highway gas station as we found our way back to Kyiv from abroad.

Stay safe out there.

Best,
Tim

"a hot dog wrapped in dough and then fried"

At my house, we call that "pig in a blanket"

Finally, the only restaurant that Bourdain visited that is still open is a staple street food in #Kyiv.

One of the few to be "overwhelmingly Kyivian," says Druziuk, who met up with Will to share the hot dog-esque guilty pleasure.

β€˜Kyivska Perepichka’ is a small window on a busy street near #Maidan #Nezalezhnosti, the central square in Kyiv, that serves a #Ukrainian delicacy known as Perepichka, which is a hot dog wrapped in dough and then fried.
