Wondering if anyone has any ideas to help me!
We're getting a fence and gate installed in the backyard soonish. I want to be able to lock it with a padlock so the dogs can be loose and I don't have to worry about strangers opening the gate. I am very very bad at numbers so I don't want the traditional number code padlock. (I think I have dyscalculia). I also don't want to have to remember to bring a key with me. Are there other options out there?
Have you read my #ActuallyAutistic travel blog?

Oof #today was just one long list of doing stuff that I'd not planned to do, mostly tech support for my father.
His computer monitor was actually whistling! Not that he noticed, his hearing's not that great.
But we had a very civilised tea on the stoep with all the dogs and cats in attendance, so that's OK.
Tomorrow I'll catch up with everything I was supposed to do today...
since a lot of folks are becoming newly interested in escaping corporate silos and moving to community-based services, are you aware of @matrix?
Matrix is to Slack and Discord, what Mastodon is to Twitter: a decentralized, federated network based on open standards/specs. It also supports full end-to-end encryption, just like Signal, so you can exchange messages privately!
If you find the fediverse interesting/inspiring, I recommend giving matrix a whirl. The quickest way to get started is to head over to https://app.element.io/ and make a (free!) account (although you can also join any number of other home servers, or host your own--they all talk to each other!).
If you _do_ end up checking it out, please do say hi! I'm @zkat:zkat.tech over there. I also manage a "space" (a group of channels, kinda like a Discord server) that you can join by clicking here: https://matrix.to/#/!tKdDSgQTxQzcOuTXqV:matrix.org?via=zkat.tech&via=matrix.org&via=envs.net
I hope this sparks your interest! I'd love to see you over there, too!
Let's hear it for British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace. He just gave Ukraine cruise missiles.
Hurrah for the Brits.

OK, Froggage says it's shit; can we call it off now?

When you take a taxi in Tokyo, it's now pretty standard to have an air quality monitor inside.
The drivers all mask and there's plexiglass separating the driver and the passengers.
You may argue about the effectiveness of each of these measures, but it's clear that this is a society responding together and adapting to a new reality.
This is living with the virus: trying to mitigate it's harm. Instead of pretending it does not exist.

Popular misconceptions about Ukrainian history: Crimea is russian
russia touts the myth that Crimea has always been russian in order to justify its invasion and annexation of #Crimea in 2014.
According to this myth, russia's annexation was a "correction" of a historical mistake, but the truth is that Crimea was under russia's rule only for a fraction of its long #history

I'm on a work conference call with a customer, and I'm pretty sure I just heard a solid example of self-advocacy. At the beginning of the meeting, someone at the customer side let us all know they had a "quiet hour" scheduled, and they would be taking it, and unavailable during that hour.
I reject the comforting fiction that this could not happen to me, or to you.
That is part of what allows it to persist, to escalate.
This most recent murder is an escalation. No excuse of the killer being a cop. Just βa marineβ who cares if he was a marine? Why is that little nugget always repeated as if it has any meaning?
Brownshirts self appointed violence spigots. Are we to treat every ex-cop and βmilitary manβ as exceptions to the rule of law? It is disgusting that the police hesitated
"By the morning, all the debris had been swept away, with Kyiv Zoo opening to visitors. The animals will be monitored over the coming days and if necessary given anti-depressants in their water. In the meantime they would get extra apples and nuts.
One mother had taken her son to see the chimpanzees. βHeβs 11 today. Last nightβs attack was terrible. But I promised to take him to the zoo and a promise is a promise,β she said, as a monkey swung from a branch."
