I kinda began to realize more what it means to live as whoever I want to be. “Be who you want to be” sounds so easy in practice but even after coming out, it was difficult for me because I was a bit of a conformist. I think I’m finally getting over that hump! I initially went by she/they when I first decided my new name, Melody, but I was afraid that presenting as anything less than very feminine all the time would make my identity fraudulent, so I went by she/her, which made me happy, but it wasn’t the complete truth. This is an extremely long thread for a slight pronoun and identity update, even if I still prefer she/her most of the time. A year ago, “Genderfluid Woman” would have felt conflicting to me, but it just makes sense now. And again, why not choose a direction that makes me happy? Melody, she/they, genderfluid woman. Isn’t she cool? They’re just doing what makes them happy now!

There is over a decade of precedent that Facebook will not have users' best interests as their guiding principle but rather profit margins, if it joins the Fediverse.

We at tech.lgbt have long held the belief that corporation owned instances are a threat to the core of the Fediverse: freedom for users to be themselves and to be a part of their communities. The 2010s saw the loss of online freedom when the majority of the Web was consolidated into a few destinations, and Facebook entering here could lead us back to centralization. Furthermore, NDAs for server admins will constrain our sovereignty online by binding us legally from disrupting their business.

We are not products. We are people, and we do not welcome Facebook in this space.

Like many other scientists I often get "debate me" emails from random people with weird ideas about #astronomy. If I answer, they feel validated. Same if I don't. So I always pick the option that doesn't waste my time. Don't fall for the "debate me" trap, folks, you can't win. #scicomm

@actuallyautistic Is anyone else currently on an unmasking mission? This topic is SO important to me, and I don't have anyone to talk about it with. I genuinely feel like I can't move forward with my life until I've become comfortable in my own body, without masking.

But my masking is such that I start doing it if anyone is within 20 meters of me. It's chronic masking fatigue. It has to change.

Quick question for @actuallyautistic -- I'm finally able to get my little guy evaluated for autism soon (ie before August after a five year wait).

Is there anything I need to do (or not do) to prepare my son for the process? He's six years old for reference. We've suspected since around 1.5 years. Thanks, Laura
