In Europe, budget airlines make inter-city travel ridiculously cheap. They also boost pollution and emissions.

European Sleeper, which started its #Brussels- #Amsterdam- #Berlin service last week, is hoping to replace flights by convincing people to switch to night trains.

@Zumbador @ScottSoCal I’ll generally use their @, but that’s bc if I’m talking about someone, I’m not going to do it behind their back πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Spotting other people and their joy

This teen, behind the rest of the group, saw our queer family group, saw me in particular, looked at me and gave me a broad, happy, joyful smile.

I saw you. I hope whatever path to joy you take, I inspired you and made you realise it's possible for you

My first day on Mastodon. Feels a little scary to be on new social media. I've been on Insta a little and that's about it since I moved three years ago. Summer is here and all the irises have come and gone. They were planted before I moved here and this year for the first time white irises bloomed. It was such a sweet surprise. Attaching photos of some purple and white irises. #flowersOfMastodon #flowers #flora #homeBoundPhotography #pwME

I would like for MSNBC to limit their discussions of TFG to 5 min per show. The rest is rehash. Meanwhile, all we hear about is him, so that leaves the impression he’s the most important/only important person in the nation. What goes unmentioned is all the accomplishments being achieved by Dems. Dems out in the Media cold zone. See how that works? Republicans have mastered media monopoly. When that starts to fizzle, they throw a tantrum and that’s covered for weeks on end. #WiseUpWillYa

My favorite intention-warping meme of late is "this is a technically compliant US flag according to the US flag code"

3.5 years of constant caution and sacrifice, withholding dinners at restaurants & concerts, and I let one professional event encourage me to take needless risks. I spoke in a room with 80 people without a mask. I asked the event planner to have air filters in the room, but she said "their effectiveness for Covid prevention is limited," which is, of course, BS, and that should've been when I withdrew from the event. I let my guard down, and now I have my first #COVID infection. Be safe out there!

What is the etiquette about addressing somebody in a thread when there are lots of people involved?

I've noticed that when there are lots of responses in a thread, a person will insert their comment inside the list of "@names" so that it comes after the @name they're directly responding.

e.g.

---------------------------------

@name1.example

Hey there I agree with you

@name2.example
@name3.example

----------------------------------

Which seems good, as it makes it clear who you're talking to and can avoid misunderstandings, while still including other people in the conversation.

What about referring to somebody by name in your comment? Would you use their display name, or their @name?

I wonder if they make goats milk yogurt. Goats yogurt. Gogurt. Omg

New Zealand has designated seats in their House of Representatives for indigenous Maoris, who can choose to be registered on the electoral roll to vote for regular seats or the Maori ones. I would support a similar arrangement for America. It is the LEAST we could do for our indigenous peoples after what occurred in our history.

"If you want to lose weight eat in front of a mirror, nude". Tried it. All I saw was a happy naked woman eating cheese.

Is mid 40s old enough to start putting the word "the" before everything?

As in, "I'm all over The Mastodon." or "Let's watch some shows on The Netflix?"

I always thought that was adorable.

@ScottSoCal @dramypsyd I sometimes really regret leaving a job that fit very well with my ASD powered skillset (foreign languages, logistical planning) for my current field. It was a for a travel insurance assistance company where I was responsible for the logistical side of medical evacuations at the direction of medical staff...evacs worldwide 🌎 in a 24/7 call center environment. I actively used my German & Spanish skills and sometimes Russian. It didn't pay super great but it was work I absolutely loved & it was exciting. Also felt great to make a real difference saving lives. I miss it.

You Are loved. You Are seen. You Are Safe Here. You Are Needed. You Are Unique. You Are Enough. You Are You. You Are Valid. You Are Heard.

You Matter.

And yes, nobody is perfect, least of all anyone (like me) from the country of Jim Crow, but keep electing Danielle Smith in Alberta and we'll see how that works out.

Fallout 3 claims the U.S. invades Canada...

Just read A Short Stay in Hell. Good, quick existential read. Makes me wonder why people want to live forever.

But THREE of the justices voted in favor of this insanity!!! We need to keep the damn Senate or we're gonna lose our democracy.
