You come across some disturbing things when you browse old newspapers. Case in point is the New York Times Amusements This Evening section from December 30, 1851, where they highlight an exhibition of “Two Living Aztec Children“ at the Society Library.

Later on in 1852, the Times goes in much greater detail about how these two children were kidnapped and then sold in San Salvador to an American and brought to New York City to be exhibited.

About a month later, a white female person I know texted me "Can you change your avatar photo, now." Which I did. The following is a selection of the Angry Black Women avatars I used since. These Angry Black Women changed out lives for the better.

To ensure cars didn’t take back control of #Paris streets as the pandemic was “ending” (no, it hasn’t ended), like they have in so many cities, Mayor #AnneHidalgo made sure that 60k parking spaces and many streets were permanently transformed into seating for restaurants, people places and bike-lanes.

I have a thick skin. I’m not unaccustomed to attacks. And I surely don’t mind reasonable people raising opposing views. But the bird app has been swamped with MAGA Republicans determined to drive away progressives with false narratives and ad hominem attack. A dispiriting display of the human condition and a waste of time. Alas.
