Canada's news system has been seized, bought sold off, and is now under the control of a far right American Corporation (most Canadian Newspapers large and small)
There are a handfull of excellent small regional papers, Halifx Examiner for example, and The Tyee. The Tyee has come to Mastodon, and thats great, its a great paper, swining and landing far about its weight, more than regional paper, well worth a follow, maybe even a bell.

@MeidasTouch Wait, the former publisher of the National Enquirer is named David Pecker? How did I not know that? I love when reality is ridiculous like that.
Missouri's attorney general has been harassing a gender clinic in St. Louis because they work with youths.
Now he has an online form for complaints and concerns regarding "gender intervention" in the state.
Prime trolling opportunity, pass it on.

In your current life, how big of a deal would an extra $5 per day be for you?
That's about $150 per month or $1825 per year which seems very significant to me, but I'm curious if I'm out of touch with reality or not.
The current Wisconsin Supreme Court has a 4-3 conservative majority. An ultra-MAGA justice is retiring. Dan Kelly wants to replace her.
We beat Kelly, flip the court majorityβand open the door to ending our abortion ban & securing democracy.

@ScottSoCal Lol -- fair enough.
I think it's okay, (even good), to be wrong about one thing.
Today in my newsfeed there are all kinds of articles telling me that Brandon Sanderson is actually awesome and that Wired article about him is super mean.
Except, it's really not. Read anything Foster-Wallace has written about anyone, ever.
To imagine that this is some kind of hit piece or takedown is, frankly, weird and, honestly, stupid.
The Wired article is what happens when a good, but powerless, writer is given the impossible assignment of making rich-guy nerd crap look cool.
My god, internet defenders of literally everything bad, take a weekend to read "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" before filling space with yet more nonsense about poor, beleaguered, B. Sanderson.
The Wired article is funny. It's intended to be funny. It's about a millionaire writer who cranks out crap for people who like to eat crap.
That's okay. Sometimes we like to eat crap, especially in America. It doesn't need to be defended.
