I have some good advice for folks on this here world wide web:

It's better to have your stuff on a personal website or blog, than only using someone else's site as the place to post your work.

Cause you never know when that site's gonna disappear. And we always need backups and mirrors.

midnight thoughts:

I try my best to remember something from a game I've played. An exciting moment, a good tune, a funny bug.

If I can't really think a specific moment and only go through the broad strokes, then the game was forgettable to me.

Which is kind of a bummer tbh

computer/controller gripes

For a while I wanted to use my 360 pad's guide button as a screenshot button, so I didn't have to take my hand off the controller.

While Steam was running, it would move the mouse cursor down. Turning off some controller settings fixed this, but then the button would activate Steam's Big Picture Mode.

After fixing *that*, with the help of AntiMicroX, I can now use the guide button to take screenshots with ShareX by hitting Print Screen.

This was quite an ordeal!

you know that quote that's often (erroneously) attributed to Shigeru Miyamoto -- "a late game is late until it releases, a rushed game is bad forever"?

well. turns out a trans woman game dev was the one who said it. huh.

and are you working 100% of the time?

  • "but xyz only works on chrome"
set your user agent to spoof chrome and get back to me on that

  • "but chrome is faster/uses less ram"
i wish i still lived in 2010 too

So often when I'm talking to other developers they tell me they can't understand how someone with as versatile as my skillset has gone unemployed for 2 years. I can't find an answer to them either. Maybe I'm bad at marketing myself, maybe I'm just too much of an illegal immigrant to be able to be hired anywhere. My savings are dwindling and I don't know how to look for jobs who aren't going to interview me for a whole month just to finish on "unfortunately we can't hire you". If you have any ideas I'd love to hear some replies.
