I had spent all my life enamored by the myths of mermaids and sought every avenue I could to prove they were real.
They had to be real, the world and the tales made no sense otherwise.
It couldn't simply have been the fancies of lonely sailors unable to differentiate maiden from dugong.
Then one day my persistence paid off - my vessel was almost capsized as she climbed aboard.
At first I was confused by what I saw.

Here's the polarization stuff at work. I tried a video of just the one window but aperture autocorrection made it not obvious how dark the windows can get.

"This does not explain why the beast's head is not adorning my mantelpiece."
"Because after longer talks, we became friends,“ the paladin explained, exerting much practiced patience.
"Traditionally, one slays a dragon to end its rampage."
"Traditionally, yes. But that approach proved unnecessary."
"Aren't you supposed to uphold traditions?"
"After even more talks and many walks by the shores, we proposed to each other. Traditionally, Paladins do not slay their future spouses, m'lord."

"Wasn’t your quest to end the dragon’s rampage," inquired the Duke.
"It was, and I did; there has not been a single trampled hut nor stolen cattle in years," responded the Paladin.
"But the dragon is still alive."
"Yes."
"Why is this?"
"Because,” the paladin ran a scarred hand over her wrinkled brow, and through her gray hair, ”After a long talk, she agreed to be more mindful of her surroundings and other people's property."

At the edge of night, lay the vixens three, with fur of ruby, silver and onyx, respectively, seemingly carefree, but ears and golden eyes alert. A stranger soon approached them.
The traveler was dirty and unshaven, but knelt respectfully.
"What do you seek?" asked Ruby, curiously.
"Why are you here?" asked Silver, cautious but kindly.
"And what do you want, human?" asked Onyx, the most critical and dubious of the trio.

The lump under the sheet moved slowly.
Its progress slowed further as kittens pounced on it. There was a distressed mew and I scooped up the trio of kittens, lifted the sheet, and dumped them on their now revealed sibling. They tumbled and rolled and waved their tiny paws in the air.
I allowed the sheet to drape over them and watched the lumps explore, when not interrupted by playful tackles.
I'd just have to finish making the bed later.
linux stuff
The linux/FOSS community is extremely insular and makes the software more annoying to use because pedants are loud. It's our job as users and/or developers to make the software and community friendlier so if anyone here needs help or information about switching to linux, finding programs, or getting things to work the way they want, I'm here to help and my DMs are always open

The nagi slid into her brook, black serpent body coiled beneath the cool water with her human face just above the surface, allowing her long black hair to swirl around her head with the current.
She contemplated her upcoming tasks.
It was about time to test her human students to see how they were coming along with reading and writing.
After that she needed to decide on a hairdo and jewelry for a wedding she was attending.
Life was good.
