Oh are the new users asking about how to get the check mark again? LMAO listen:

You're important, you're valid, & you don't need that check mark 💝💝💝

There's no checkmark procedure on Mastodon. You're already verified real and valid.

My workstation is misbehaving so badly, clicking on "Boost" turned the page into a solid black screen. I'm going to take this as a hint. Happy weekend, everyone.

Happy Friday the Thirteenth, folks.

Things are getting accomplished and work disasters are getting resolved successfully, but the curse is apparently exhaustion. (And my workstation is lagging on things it shouldn't be.)

fascist shit

@soft_chomps@glitch.social Fascists use flawed logic and faulty reason as weapons. The only meaning words have to them is as a weapon to use as deftly as their anagram, a sword.

Periodic reminder: malvertising on otherwise-trustworthy websites has been such a large problem for years, and shows no sign of getting better, that an ad blocker is Internet security software.

If a site you visit asks you to disable your ad blocker, take it the same way you would a demand to disable your antivirus just to view their site.

FLOSS venting

How to lose my interest in your program before I click on anything on your home page:

"Web browser with built-in ad blocking"
- Go on...

"On slow/expensive connections, block scripts & images"
- Now you're talking!

"Fast and efficient"
- So it's a small GUI Web browser? I can use one.

"Written entirely with CSS & JavaScript using Electron"
- Wait, hold up!

"Try our browser now! [_Download_]"
- Okay, this I gotta see.

*"Download" changes to "Requires MacOS" on hover*
- WAT

friendly reminder that we have sent actual real space ships to an actual real planet and landed robots on that planet and drive those robots around taking pictures of ANOTHER PLANET

pictures you can see! on the internet!!!

long tech post

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz I'm on the lookout for the same.

long tech post

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz You and me both, but with a different list of specifics.

@kara_dreamer Digital libraries can be good if you understand you're renting for a one-time fee and with some conditions, but that's the rub: You're renting, not buying.

@kara_dreamer You have to figure out where to put a paper book when you're done reading it, but Amazon won't repossess it if they think you did something you shouldn't (and probably didn't) before you finish reading it.

@squirrel It doesn't help that the server end is so frustrating, but we do genuinely appreciate that as well.

@squirrel The number and variety of small instances is one of the network's greatest strengths. You are providing a great service, and we love you for it. We could choose anywhere managed by anyone, and after weighing all our choices, we chose here, a place cared for by you.
