Got it, reading now. The holding is simple: "An employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender violates Title VII'.

This is really good news because it applies nationwide. (Fewer than half of states currently have non-discrimination protections on the basis of gender identity. A dozen or so have no protections of any sort for any LGBTQ+ employees.)

Quote I got from someone else (because I'm still waiting for the PDF): "Today, we must decide whether an employer can fire someone simply for being homosexual or transgender. The answer is clear. An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex. Sex plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids."

For the next Global Accessibility Awareness day, I hope that Mastodon, or @pinafore at least, has all images only show their Alt-Text and not the image, so at least for that day only, people will at least describe their images somewhat, or just write text. Maybe too drastic, I know. #a11y

Minneapolis has voted to disband their police department and replace it with community-based safety programs.

Two notes here:

-I recommend carefully watching where it is the fired police go, because replacing the MPD with a new structure comprised of... the MPD's old members with its old tactics... would be pointless and thus an excellent way to betray the change, but...
