"With a software death date baked into each model, older versions of these inexpensive computers are set to expire three to six years after their release. Despite having fully functioning hardware, an expired Chromebook will no longer receive the software updates it needs, blocking basic websites and applications from use…

Dear search engines:
If you run out of relevant results to show me, then just tell me I've reached the end so I can either choose better search terms or make a decision with what there is.
Stop trying to stretch your list with an endless stream of absurdly irrelevant results. All it does is waste my time, waste your resources, & make me conclude *you're* irrelevant.
Pictured: a search on Google Shopping for a brand & model of cash register.
I finally tripped & fell into the bot-produced churn content on YouTube. (I'm looking at reviews of an obscure cash register.) Reviewbot: "The built-in South Dakota card slot allows a PC link software to synchronize your store." They really don't care as long as their TTS conversion sounds like words.
South Dakota card slot.
Thank goodness I use Noscript & block DoubleClick, so the ads don't run or load.
Stop using Chrome as your daily driver.
Google proposed adding DRM to Chrome, which will be used to stop ad blockers, privacy tools, password plugins, accessibility/reader modes.
The only way to stop Google’s Chrome from wrecking the internet like Internet Explorer did for many year to switch to a NOT chromium-based browser as soon as possible for your day to day. You’ve got Safari, and Firefox as your choices.
I know you’ll have to use Chrome sometimes because it’s already happening.
The "Likes are now florps" and "Timeline goes sideways" joke is so tame compared to the actual hallucinations of reality by billionaires.
In 2000, Elon Musk tried to rebrand PayPal as X.com, but was forced out by the board and replaced as CEO by Peter Thiel.
Now he’s doing the same to Twitter, but is surrounded by sycophants who can’t tell him it’s a bad idea.

BTW, barcode wands not only come with manuals more complete than a very expensive PC's manual, but they *must* come with decent manuals.
The wand can be a keyboard or a serial port to the PC, user's choice. So how do you configure the wand? You scan bar codes printed in the manual for the settings you want to configure.
nm usa politics, drugs
Marijuana is legal here, cannabis dispensaries have popped up, & they're helping to revitalize the city's sagging economy as much as any other local business.
But two of those dispensaries have opened up within sight of the Socorro County Republican Party office: one two doors down, & one just across the street.
I wonder if those were deliberate, & I hope it's a middle finger to the GOP if so.
Today in Windows hardware support is a joke:
A cheap barcode scanner wand barely as expensive as a cheap wired mouse.
Unix:
It just works! Literally plug and play.
Windows 10:
After half a minute, it said it just works, but "031225044071" is not a valid UPC for anything, let alone a router, and "E2>J1>53X>>1" is not a valid MAC address.
Those are consistent misreads on Windows, not random garbage, & I swapped it back to Unix to make sure the wand didn't break itself. Nope, it's just Windows.
