food mention

I'm so lazy tonight, I'm eating supper straight out of the pan I baked it in.

pride month means time for stealing rainbow-flags from rainbow capitalist companies. :blackbloc:

Note to self: When moving a shellscript's command line/getopts processing into an initialization function (say, 'setoptions'), remember to call it as 'setoptions "$@"' or you'll spend an hour troubleshooting why variables are empty.

terfs: "I refuse to classify myself as cis. Cis is anti-woman. I am a woman and I will never be cis."
society: "Hello, I see you are a woman. Please choose from: transgender woman, or, non-transgender woman."
ters: :pika_surprise:

I opened illustrator and immediately blacked out. When I woke up, this was on my screen.

POSIX pain point:

If I use $( shellcheck -ax mainscript.sh ) and a dot-included has a typo in a comment that happens to be a shellcheck directive, then shellcheck calls that comment a script parse error & refuses to check it.

It's reasonable but surprising.

Re: UI Rage, UX Rage

Seriously, Cisco's ancient Aironet devices from 2000 had menu-driven **TELNET** interfaces that yielded a better device management UX! Do a 1970s menu over SSH, and you're golden!

UI Rage, UX Rage

Dear networking device manufacturers:

Fuck your JavaShit bullscript device management interfaces.

Fuck you for making those huge, unwieldy, flaky, & unreliable Web apps the only meaningful (or literally only) way to manage your devices in the field on bad days.

Love,

ArielMT

I'm cleaning out stuff, and I came across the "Windows Handbook 2010" issue of Maximum PC magazine, from September 2010.

On page 23, in the middle of "Google Tips," is Reader.

Google closed Reader on July 1, 2013, near the height of its popularity.

Don't rely on any Google service to be there for long, no matter how popular.

Website, JavaScript, ad blocking, & UX rage.

Why do I insist on browsing websites with JavaScript disabled? Why is an ad blocker not enough for me?

Getting redirected to this bullshit here *JUST* because I want to protect my PC from malvertising!

If you make your website do this, there's a special place in Hell for you.

This first-in-my-life mishap that we'll all laugh about later made me realize I've been doing more actual home cooking than simply reheating frozen dinners recently, and I got to remembering why: My life changed fundamentally between January 2nd & 3rd, & it could've ended then.

Basically, I just realized that, for me, the world suddenly ended twice about 9 months apart. What shocking changes.

Why is the debate of RFC-3339 vs. ISO-8601 the new holy war of computers? ... When did this new holy war begin?

Webmail #UIRage

Webmail apps are not desktop applications, and they should not try to behave like one. Every single one that tries fails horribly.

I have never in my life used a Webmail application as good as HoTMaiL was in 1997, before Microsoft bought it. Fuck all y'all for making any Web-based mail user interface more complicated than that.

This message brought to you by: HOW THE HOLY FUCK DO I SELECT MORE THAN ONE MESSAGE AT A TIME WHEN THE LIST DOES NOT HAVE A COLUMN OF CHECKBOXES!?

Start fixing your sleep schedule now, US folks. Your time zone changes on the Sunday after next, & this is the lose-an-hour change. Start going to bed a bit earlier, & start getting up a bit earlier.

Microsoft VS Code is in the pkg repo and ports tree. freshports.org/editors/vscode/

I never thought I'd see the day when MS did anything for any Unix newer than Xenix. I don't know how to feel about this.
