@piggo For certain convenient temperatures (multiples of nine + 32), yeah, just give me a minute. Otherwise, I'm gonna need a ±20% tolerance...
If you're looking for a decent flashlight to keep around the house instead of just using your phone's camera, let me suggest the Energizer TAC-R 700. I don't know quite how close it gets to its 700 lumen rating (though if TTC testing of a similar penlight is any indication, it's probably pretty close), but it's certainly quite bright on high, easily lighting up an old barn in the back pasture brighter than the light mounted in the pasture does. It's pretty good. Would recommend.
Music tech take: The Microsoft Wavetable GS Synth soundfont wasn't that bad. Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but I quite enjoy the sound of it. Don't get me wrong, the synth itself has issues, but I've got an sf2 of the synth set as my default soundfont in Audacious because I like it.
Anyhoo. Carry on
The principal, for what it's worth, does have a degree in CS, so it's not like she doesn't know what she's talking about, but I'm not sure her evaluation is 100% accurate. But knowing I have her behind me, and being relatively certain I'd have the current tech director behind me, I may as well. I mean, if I do get the job, that'll be a pretty decent paycheck, so...
Don't get me wrong. If I get the job, I can definitely do it. But it'll be a very rough start. I am not qualified to do this. I have very little experience in school IT and none in actually running the show. Like I said, if I get the job, I can work things out, but it'll be a heck of a fucking time
A lot's been said about imposter syndrome and how valid it is, and the gods know I've experienced my fair share of impostor syndrome over stuff I can do, but I'm currently, despite lacking any reasonable qualifications, applying for tech director of a school because the HS principal thinks I should and nothing more, so I'm gonna call these thoughts reasonably valid
Since it's something on my mind right now, I'd like to give a shoutout to my high school Spanish teacher, Señora Smith. When I started high school, I did not want to take Spanish. I thought it was dumb and I'd never need it anyways. But, Sra. Smith managed to not just instill in me an interest in Spanish, though she did do that, but also a love of languages in general, that would expand into an interest in linguistics as a whole.
If you've got the time to spare, I'm pretty sure there are no downsides to fucking with these sorts of spammers, so definitely go and have some fun doing that. It can lead you down some fun roads.
The best part is that I didn't send the passport to "the guy wanting to give me money". I put it in the form that the supposed HSBC sent me, then the original email address sent it back to me angry and accusing me of trying to scam him out of his money. The whole thing was just a real fun time, honestly.
