Been seeing some people upset the bill to remove DST in the states keeps us on DST, like...y'all. Time is fake. People living literally meters apart have their clocks off by an hour, while people hundreds of kilometers apart live on the same time. Why does it matter which of these two sets of time we stay on? DST or not, what matters is that we aren't torturing ourselves with the switch twice a year. Otherwise, time. is. fake.
Okay, well, I guess saving a cart is also a good use, though there's no reason for that cookie to exist for more than a few days tops. Still, I'm going with 5 as a hard limit for now.
I'm not logged in. I've changed no site settings. Why does The Guardian need 21 cookies on my computer?!
Web design hot take: Cookies are for persistent logins and persistent site settings that the user themself has set. (If the user hasn't changed any site settings (if present in the first place), you don't need a settings cookie!) If you're setting more than 2 cookies, you're (probably) doing something wrong. If you're using more than 5, fuck you.
"we don't need it because we already know how touch screens work" ??? they've been around for decades and people aren't too stupid to figure out how touching a screen works
we got rid of it because the extra hours of art time come out of the CEO's fifth sexual assault legal fund and that's just not worth the digital version of "this button here is satisfying to press, this one over here is mushy and makes me feel depressed" because you aren't a person if you make less than 1mil/year
everyone keeps doing UI art as like "it's a white box with a boring, businessy sans serif font and maybe a rounded rectangle on it" and i really, really hate it
open for the most cursed set of pronouns to have others use for referring to you
@t54r4n1 Gotta admit, I'm having a good laugh plugging these in to "[subject pronoun]'s a good person, but [possessive pronoun] pronoun choice is...uh...questionable."
Legit, though, it never fails to amaze me just how prolific Indo-european languages are. Like, damn. Despite looking nothing alike, languages as diverse as Sanskrit, Persian, Spanish, Greek, Russian, and, yes, even English share a core going back thousands of years. Is that not just amazing?
