Stress management/self-care tips for these troubling times
Try not to be too hard on yourself. A large chunk of the world is being hard enough on you. Don't give yourself extra negativity to shoulder. I know it can be hard, but try to look at your good side. Though you may not believe it, you have one. The world may be a bad place, but you aren't a bad person in it. Try to believe that.
Try to do something at least once a week that's just for you, even if it's just taking a walk in the park.

That last part includes using stimulants to make up for your lack of sleep. Obviously, stimulants you've been prescribed are okay, but try not to rely on caffeine to replace sleep.
If you have a support system you can talk to, use it. If you don't, I can't really offer advice on getting one, but you should do your best to do so. If all else fails, there are plenty of people on the fediverse willing to help and support you, including me.

Try to keep exercising. Even if it's just some pushups and jumping jacks when you wake up in the morning. Keep something going.
Make sure you're getting enough sleep. Everyone has a different amount of sleep they need, but if you're getting less than 7 hours a night, you probably need to be getting more.
If you can at all avoid it, don't use drugs or alcohol to *cope*. I know it can be hard, but at least try.

I'm not gonna lie. I cried writing that last post. Just earlier, I was getting depressed over the future of this planet, and now to see all you beautiful people in the UK have to deal with the nightmare of an overwhelming tory majority? The prospect of a world where we can all truly be happy just seems to be getting further and further away...

Hi. It's me, Kat. Things look grim, don't they? I'm not gonna lie, things are looking really bad for y'all over there. But, please, please, please don't give up. I can't give you much advice, but please. Keep taking care of yourselves, try to hold off the depression, regroup, and figure out what's next. If you at all can, please keep fighting. Fight for your neighbors who can't. And that starts with taking care of yourself.
I love you. Please keep going.

re: youtube boycott, amazon, corporate monopolies, i want to actually change minds instead of vent on this one (2/2)
So, hypothetically, you could say "we'll all move from Amazon! We'll move our stores, be customers in other places!"
But be real: could you? Could you afford it? Like, sure, if you're small enough, you can take the hit and go to someplace like Ebay or Redbubble, but you will suffer for it.
You've probably thought about the fact that you still use Amazon because it's affordable, and felt bad, right?
Unfortunately, that's kind of the key here: you can't practically afford to go elsewhere.
Each inch these companies make towards being a more convenient part of your life, is an inch towards being unstoppable, because they're so big, our lives wind up changing in such a way that we need these conveniences. I think that's a thread in and of itself, but if this seems like a weird sentiment, consider the most blatant example: how badly you need a smartphone to function in society anymore.
Even Wal-Mart feels too expensive to use, now.
So let's go back to the idea of moving elsewhere. Do you think it's actually possible to take your small, ethical business and rival Amazon? Hell no. Of course you can't.
Because we are so beyond the concept of an actual free market, that we take these monopolies for granted.
We need to focus our attention on multiple governments. This needs to be a United Nations issues, and I'm totally not kidding about this, and I'm not excepting Youtube. We need fair play, not small changes to Terms & Agreements.
Think about this: your favorite video creator - could they make videos elsewhere and still survive? Do you think this would still apply if YouTube never existed?
We need to be breathing down the necks of nations on this, not the companies.
youtube boycott, amazon, corporate monopolies, i want to actually change minds instead of vent on this one (1/2)
Y'all, I support the Youtube boycott (we're calling it a strike? seems like a boycott), to be clear.
HOWEVER
I don't feel this is the way to enact change anymore. We need to be directing our attention to various governments.
We're living in an age of monopolies and gigantic corporations. They're ubiquitous around the world, and as such, don't really need the public to approve of them. There's no possible way we can make a big enough dent to actually be a threat. We can show our anger, but we can't really be a threat. And we need to be a threat.
On December 14th, we'll be returning to Youtube. There's no question of it. I'm gonna pivot to Amazon here since it's the grandaddy of this monopoly problem, but youtube totally applies.

Oh boy. Physiognomy's back (or, at least, it's trying to come back) and we have white techbros to thank. Can we *please* just get rid of them? Please? Like, we don't even have to kill them. Just, like, find an island to put them all on, and just let them do their thing in isolation.
Of course, if you're gonna not use a socket for cost, why have the USB outlet sized hole? Perhaps they have other chargers that do provide a socket with separate cable? I honestly don't know. It's certainly weird.
Like, here's the circuit board and the case. It could totally take a USB outlet, but didn't. I wonder why? Cost, perhaps? I mean, it was a cheap phone. But this seems a little much. I don't know. But, I'll see if I can't fix it up later
So, the other day, I pulled apart a little microUSB charger that came with a cheap flip phone, hoping I could turn it into a cheap 5v supply. It turns out that it's actually just a generic USB charger that someone soldered a microUSB cable onto. Like, the case is even designed to accommodate a USB socket. So, assuming I haven't fried it trying to solder alligator clips on, I think I may try to turn it into a USB charger later. I did notice those are in short supply around here the other day...
mh (+), kink ment, self-harm ment.
Self-care is allowing your dommy side to gently dom your subby side while checking up on yourself.
"Are you having thoughts of self-harm?: Not really
Have you self-harmed in the past day?: Nope!
* Good girl. I'm proud of you.
* You're too beautiful to keep using yourself as a punching bag.
* Keep it up. You're doing great."
An actual protest at YouTube Headquarters would have been more meaningful. At least that might have made the news.
As is there's no coordination here. No organizing. There's no site for information, no nothing beyond "don't go on Youtube these days". It's just impromptu.
