What is 'a lot of work?'" (cw: late state capitalism) [1/4]
A burned out friend of mine said, after listing a huge list of accomplishments, "I have no concept of what is 'a lot of work'" - so I thought I'd help explain.
"a lot of work" is what happens when you stop and think about the past 3 years of your life and you realize a lot of them are a blur because you spent so much of them furiously working the problems of multiple conflicting deadlines that a lot of it looks the same.

On the bright side, 30 150's are about $12, compared to 60 75's (an equivalent amount) at about $26. Plus, it's only one large pill instead of two kinda big pills. So, net positive?

So, when I started Effexor (XR), I was on a 37.5 mg ramp-up dose. I'm now on 150 mg. Let me show you the size of these pills. To the left, you can see Effexor, 37.5, 75, and 150 respectively. To the right, an Exedrin Migraine, a 325 mg round of paracetamol, and a Benadryl. Note how large the Effexor 150 is in comparison to everything else. These are fucking *huge*.
What happens when a person of color talking about racism says, "Don't tell me to CW this," and a white person does, in fact, tell them to CW it? Well, there's the obvious: A white person is disrespecting a person of color's boundaries in order to talk down to them.
But let's go subtler. What's happening in the mind of the white person who feels themself to be well-intentioned?
A collision of community norms. Many — not all!— people of color online feel that there is a tradeoff to be made between the urgency of a message and its potential triggers. When they and other people operating under those conventions interact, passing along information they may find upsetting because they judge it urgent, the system works as intended.
When someone whose etiquette system is CW-if-in-doubt sees this, it looks different. Perhaps like a violation! There's a clash of norms between different informal communities of use. For a really basic analogy, this is like seeing a photograph of a British car,
Re: Re: subtoot, but kinda silly and good (it's actually not so silly and good)
Some context on the "crisis actor" thing. That was in the account name that I blocked out. But, the account's been banned now, so, if it was a real person, the risk of exposing anything about them is now zero. So, yeah. Some bot named Crisis Actors.
Re: subtoot, but kinda silly and good (it's actually not so silly and good) (actually, it is quite silly)
Wait, *all events*?! *All* important people?! Actually, this one is quite very silly. Maybe it's not *that* bad
Re: subtoot, but kinda silly and good (it's actually not so silly and good)
I just realized that this one isn't quite as amusing as I thought. The "crisis actor" concept is actually kinda sorta very bad and dangerous. I'd like to think most of us here aren't ignorant, ill-informed, and/or gullible enough to fall for this, but it's still not as amusing because of that thing.
(The tie-in to the Illuminati is an interesting twist, though.)
Re: Subtoot, subtoot meta with respect to myself (not really aimed at others)
In case you think I'm calling you out, I'm not. This is a callout of myself and myself alone.
Subtoot, subtoot meta with respect to myself (not really aimed at others)
I hate that my first thought upon muting someone is "I should also subtoot them." No, me. You should not. Remove them from your timeline and move on with your life. There is no need to do something so toxic.
(This, ofc, isn't to say all subtoots are toxic. But sometimes, it's just uncalled for. Sometimes, it's okay to just mute and move on. You don't have to call out every little thing.)
