Well, folx, I done went and did it. I put the FENIX source code online. Did you ever want to see it for yourself? Maybe thoroughly scrutinize my code and make fun of how bad it was? WELL NOW YOU CAN!

And, if you act now, in a bonus 2-for-1 deal, you can also help! (Isn't that fun?)
Anyhoo, I've put most of what I've got online. Let me know if you have any issues with it.

FOSS hot take

"free as in free speech, but not as in free beer" is just dishonest.

Feel free to sell support services, proprietary extensions, etc. for your FOSS project.

Don't sell the mere convenience of building the damn thing -- especially with a pretentious "I did all of this work" attitude. You committed to making the current version a matter of freedom, and you probably picked a license which carries the same commitment for any future releases.

did you know a famous Swedish type theorist set up a pyramid scheme consisting of 1050 gay communists from a landlocked country in West Africa to develop artificial intelligence using a functional programming language?

re: Hot tip

So, the second hard drive replaces the CD drive. To get to that, all I had to do was take out the battery, remove 2 screws to get the bottom cover off, then remove one screw to take out the CD drive. It was that simple. I've also taken it apart to replace the thermal paste and while that was more complicated, Dell actually provides step-by-step instructions to disassemble the laptop that far. These kind of laptops are seriously quite nice in terms of repairability.

Hot tip

Okay, if you're in the market for a new laptop, seriously consider a used business-class laptop (e.g. Dell's Precision and Latitude lines). I've got a Precision M4800, and it was already pretty good, right? I've now got a dock, which lets me just take it and go. I've got a *second hard drive* in it. And, it's *really* easy to fix. I literally just had to remove three screws to be able to put in the second hard drive. They're expensive new, but used? I got mine for $300.

Insidious bullshit in teaching

Let this be a reminder that they get you young. If I hadn't taken the intellectual pathway I did, the first thing I would have found challenging that narrative would have been my Texas Government professor during my second semester of college. Even as it was, I was a junior or senior in high school before I really found out that narrative is bullshit. Children are the future, and it's children that fascists will target.

Insidious bullshit in teaching

Let that sink in. Fourth grader. Told this during social studies. By an outside speaker. Like, this would have been bad enough if I was a senior in high school. But at least I would have had the ability to, if not call it out, do my research and find out how bullshit it is. To intellectually defend myself, as it were. As a fourth grader, though? No. Not in a million years could I have hoped to defend my young, impressionable mind.

Insidious bullshit in teaching

So, if you asked me what the most insidious lie I was ever told was, there's one that easily wins out over all others: Lost Cause of the South nonse. Now, on it's own, it's bad, but not exactly "the most insidious lie". But here's the kicker: I was in 4th grade, and I was told this by a speaker who my social studies teacher brought in to tell us about how the civil war wasn't actually about slavery.
