I am having such problems with a freebsd server. I can't get the rc.d scripts to run properly and openssh refuses to connect with pubkey auth. I've been all through the configs and the docs and chmoding files. it just will not work. even ssh -vvv was unhelpful🤬

“Just install Linux” is obnoxious but… you know you’re going to have to eventually, right? The commercial OSes get less usable, fashier, and frankly more insulting to the consumer with each passing year. At some point even you will have had enough.

The jobs are drying up, chips and rare earths are getting tariffed, and having to get another year out of the old hardware is in the cards for all of us.

If you need a tech friend to get you set up, you probably did with Windows, too. It's ok.

installing mainstream Linux distros isn't arcane knowledge, if you can take a covid rapid test you can install Linux. Nerdy misogynists on the internet just want you too think its harder than it is, too inflate their own egos.
There is a windows program style installer and step by step instructions on the distros website. the most complex part is putting the install file on a thumbdrive which is fixed by ventoy
