Something I have long been missing:
There should be the possibility of setting a flag on each post for how important one thinks it to be in relation to all previous.
If a person that has so far kept posting "nah, it's cool, this is just shit" suddenly thinks "this is the most important I know of"... other people should have a way of knowing that.
Of course they may disagree, but knowing still would be good.
Of course, if a person keeps declaring every post "most important", that should then weigh the severity of that flag down on some scale.
Censorship is in general objectionable, but if you add to that it being done by the platform you post one and without telling the one posting that it is being done so it can be objected to, noticed... or responding in any way to the loud objections by several when it is noticed anyway?
That's when you cross from Orwellian to Nietzsche.
That's what instituted systematically, in my personal experience in order to support the Dictator ErdoΔan, the worst jailer of journalists and chief of a systematic war crimes omitting regime.
That's their preferences.

I'm not sure everyone actually knows, so I'll say this:
The Mastodon "federation" is actually a smaller part of the larger "GNU Social"-network.
Everyone/everything that is on Mastodon is on GNUsocial, which is older and has less uhmmm "guidelines" as to what each instance can do (e.g. up to nominally infinite charatcter-limit per post in some cases and in other cases less than what Mastodon has).
I put "federation" in quotes because it is called that but is actually a confederation.
Any member (instance) may choose to leave the "federation" or to ban any instance from everything on itself, both ways.
That is a confederation.
Yes, I know "confederation" is tainted by a State-entity that mainly fought for keeping people enslaved,
but that does not change the meaning of the actual word "confederation",
which is by definition what "the fediverse" is:
a federation one can voluntarily leave/exclude from.
Reasons to join mastodon:
- No βinfluencersβ
- Chronological timeline
- New mates
- Accessibility features
- CW etiquette
- Without the pressure of trying to please an audience via an algorithm to go viral, your shit-posting skills blossom into beautiful levels, shapes and colours that you didnβt know that you had in you.
- Horny on main
It has long been my opinion that what first ruined most (apart from being corporate-for-profit) was firstly when people started filling it with fully automated content and secondly when people started using lists instead of actually following those that they... followed.
Automated posts will near absolutely always result in less quality than if it is a person that e.g. reads an article and manually summarizes it.
I for example post a lot of stuff from some news agencies that has high quality and under-reported content, but are hrmmm... not primarily best at the English language. To then just auto-post those headlines without corrections, context and additions is just doing the actual content of the article a disservice.
Please consider prioritizing manual posts over automated (not saying MINE, just... in general).
