tl;dr I think if you liked Zootopia because of how G-rated predictable it was, you're probably not going to like Beastars past the first 10~ chapters

if you liked BLACKSAD because of it's darker tone and grittier plot, you'll probably like Beastars overall

like HOLY FUCK!!!

the first chapters DID read a lot like Zootopia, but quickly SLAMS you into a darker, much more complicated BLACKSAD-Esque anthro world

IMHO the story itself is interesting, but I cannot tell if the original writing/dialogue itself is sexist & bad, or if the particular translator I found online is bad & sexist

but then, at it's worst, there's really soft boy moments? like stopping everything to hold hands moments???

okay, real talk, why is the oldest lion in this lineup the most punk?

i know in a year the 80's will be 40 years ago (dread), but I'm genuinely curious about this *one* lion dude

sometimes it's hard for me to believe that I clench my teeth while I sleep, and then I actually WEAR my night guard for 2 nights in a row and the whole right side of my jaw stops aching constantly

back at my bullshit again reading Beastars and the description tumblr gave me is turning out to be pretty accurate

"Zootopia, but more intense"

like it's world building is def based on or inspired by zootopia, and the main characters are "Cute Bunny with Scary Carnivore", but at a younger perspective (the setting is at a boarding school that is grades 6-12)

bonus points that anytime the lab character makes an appearance I automatically give him a Mr Peanutbutter voice

The trees are made of fantastic gestures of paint strokes, but are also easily recognizable

Although, the dragon's tail runs right along the right mountain, causing a bit of a tangent, so maybe having the tail overlap the mountain might fix that?
