apparently "hootenanny" (of the same context) is even younger at 1940
"festival" and "celebration" seem to be much older at 1580s and 1520s but those still feel relatively young
"ball" is from the 1630s, apparently from French "baller" (🤣)
"gathering" is mid 12th century
"ceremony" is late 14th century
"ritual" (the noun) is 1640s

@dragon growing up I had a lot of posters, 1 framed painting, a whole mess of stuffed animals, and a bunch of figures
but only some of the figures & stuffed animals survived to my current bedroom
