you know how Fedi is email but gayer? it has most of the same spam vulnerabilities without the thirty years of countermeasures. check the n f t hashtag on dot-social, that's a pretty good preview of how bad the general spam problem is going to be in a few weeks or months.
expect:
• hashtag spam
• follow spam
• reply spam
• probably a lot of apps/websites that claim to show you your top toots or who's blocking you or whatever, but are going to be asking for overbroad API tokens that let them post spam, or straight up just asking for your password
• all of the above plus spam posts to followers, coming from compromised accounts, especially on major servers with closed registrations
i'm not saying this to be alarmist, i'm saying this to remind y'all to support your instance admins, because this is going to get messy and the only thing standing in the way is a couple of admin meta hashtags and loose web of volunteers with not enough free time.
I spent like 3 hours in the car today because of snow traffic, so glad to be finally home and out of the car

A feature of CWs that you don't really learn until you start to use them is it changes the tone of the conversation
Like putting a negative mental health CW over "I'm sad" doesn't mean I think people should hide when they're sad, it just means I'm much less likely to get a dismissive "cheer up, buddy!" or "lol that sucks" reply because with the CW the tone is "I'm sad (in my private little space here, where you are now my guest)"
