reminder to newbies, if the majority of your toot is in caps lock you should probably put that under a CW with "caps lock"

my latest food discovery is that dairy/lactose free cheese is a lot easier to deal with when you have real wheat noodles (crust or whatever) to go with it 👍

I had the absolute lowest expectations of this Amy's vegan supreme frozen pizza, but it's actually really good??? :pizzablobcat:

Anyone else starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with all the stuff going on

finally finished my ballot shit, now to run off and drop it off before I forget and it's too late

On the subject of CW for politics, here's some #feditips !

You can precise what you're talking about easily, the standard CW is "pol", however, you can narrow things down greatly just by adding your country code, for exemple, "USpol", "FRpol", etc.

You can add "elections" to signal that you're making a post about ongoing elections, or "climate" if it's political stuff related to climate

I'm going to share what is probably the simplest, and yet most time consuming, lesson in learning a new skill.

"How are your lines so neat?"
Practice.

"How can you hold a pen so steady?"
Practice.

"How do you get everything so symmetrical?"
Practice.

"How do you come up with all the different patterns?"
Practice.

When I first started drawing, and after a few years of doing it.

Stick with it. Like any skill, practice leads to improvement. If you love doing it, keep going. :bob_ross:

ah darn, I was doing so good at going to bed before the sunrise :\

my monthly changing of the laptop wallpaper to a yuru camp one was a good idea

A quick note of something that may be important for people to know: I already noted that DMs here are a bit sketchy security wise, but (THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT): if you mention someone else's account in a DM, Mastodon, yoinks them into the conversation.

So, you know, if you think you're talking about someone behind their back, you might be doing it to their face.

New people, please fill out your bio. Also, five pinned messages instead of one. So artists, you can show off your work and list your prices and let people know you are open for coms. We are truly living in the future

to clarify I mean softcover or hardcover comics, I've stopped collecting individual issues

so this tool is super useful for finding people to follow or figuring out what instance to join, but I also just noticed that it allows you to search for which instances the people you've BLOCKED on twitter are on, and I can see how that could be super helpful for some folks #twittermigration pruvisto.org/debirdify

How do you make a thread on Mastodon?

Pretty much the same way as on Twitter, with one difference. You compose the first post, publish it, then reply to it, then reply to the reply, and so on. But there's one difference. If the first post is Public, you can make all the others Unlisted. This way, people can follow the thread by clicking on the first post, but their timeline isn't clogged up with all of the other posts.

[A short thread]

Your Mastodon feed won't improve through passive engagement. There is no algorithm to suggest and share what you liked.

You must actively follow different people to see what they boost, and you must boost for other people to see. Some people are from different servers. You will see more of what they see organically. You can also hashtag to increase visibility.

There is no quote retweet either. You have to actively engage and comment in the thread.

I'm not going to claim I'm an expert on graphic design in print based media, but I get a feeling that there should be more care and time taken when an online cartoonist takes their media to print!

Not to but the blame entirely on cartoonists, printers (or publishers idk) should be showing more print proofs

specifically for color, contrast, and fonts

tl;dr RGB is different than CMYK, fonts that seem like a readable size on digital devices are not necessarily readable in a print format
