Okay Mastodon hivemind...
I am currently looking for a few new more contemporary SciFi novels. The caveat however is that I don't want the things that are currently trending.
So no Isekai. No LitRPG. No cultivation stories. No Hard Men making Hard Decisions while Hard. No grimdark disguised as'realism'. No 'everyone is always horrible to everyone else'. No Dark Forrest...
I want stories where things are optimistic and are getting better. I am okay with gray scales...
Where were you when a #starcitizen backer completed the first manually initiated server transition between Pyro and Stanton? ;) Well, i was in bed, but still, pretty exciting ;) The test is still going on now, but... yeah, this seems to be going pretty well, kudos to the teams! https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1ba4qw2/we_did_it/
If you want Live Captions on Linux, check out https://github.com/abb128/LiveCapt – you can also find it on Flathub and it works splendidly and, unlike the Windows version, it automatically saves a transcript. This is perfect for making your live streams and videos more accessible. And it’s free and open source.
We'd like to start by bringing your attention to Claw Volume 1, which was the passion project of the already-missed Kirisis, and has been generously been made available for free by @FurPlanet please consider picking this up and continuing Kiri's legacy.
Any of you music people out there have any particular scales you'd like your tools to support? (Microtonal ones are fun, but I'm currently limited to midi notes without tuning, so can't do the Vietnamese scale of harmonics or quarter tone, so... mostly wondering about the ones I can actually work with ;) )
Say you have a #sampler that can operate as a kind of wavetable #synth. If you want to implement unison and chorus, you would presumably do that essentially by having unison do the duplication prior to any panning or filter or whatnot (unison being basically about the oscillators), and chorus would be essentially multiple voices, just with each voice detuned by some amount. Does that make sense?
Hm, I've been pondering, what would happen if I started posting random, incomplete snippets of groovebox related stuff... things like random "I want to add this thing to our sampler engine" or "hey, which of these options would be better" kind of stuff... would people care? Would they even maybe answer the questions if I post any? I guess I might just start and see what happens :) #synths #groovebox #samplers #sequencer
Well, then! Looks like Server Meshing is doing that whole progressing thing ;) The newly freed patch notes and experience reports from the #starcitizen avocados says that... apparently it's working! One meshed server crashes, the other one stays up, and the crashed one recovers (currently) in about two minutes. For the first semi-public test of a feature like that... i did not expect it to be quite so smooth as that :) Future's looking very interesting there ;)
New music! Been working on this one since the beginning of the year!
Welcome to the World of Computing
https://blog.neon.kde.org/2024/02/28/kde-neon-6-available-now/
Today KDE has made its biggest release ever, never before in the 25 year history of the project have we announced so many new products at the same time but it brings the newly refreshed base to keep our software foundation strong.

The Kickstarter for Neon Roar is now live! Watch the trailer featuring music by me!

Oh damn, so... One of the more prolific #StarCitizen videographers and podcasters just got hit by the whole Twitch banned in Turkey thing (where they live), but they also got slammed by some severe flooding, and their house is basically ruined. Very extremely not awesome situation. Patreon signups obviously welcome, but there's also a gofundme organised to try and help them out, if you can: https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-tomatoes-relief-fund
Hey everyone! I've been working on a soundtrack for a 16-bit inspired furry video game called Neon Roar and our Kickstarter is launching this coming week! Here's a pre-launch page if you want to be one of the first to check it out!

I do not know how many of you are following @ryanc 's case for legal recognition under UK law. Despite the fact that non-binary people should *technically* be recognized, the UK government has fought this every step of the way.
Ryan is fighting an amazing battle, almost entirely by themself, and if you have any possibility of contributing you could make an amazing difference in the world...
https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/non-binary-recognition/
... spreading word of this case also helps, since the mainstream media has been astonishingly silent about it.
Folks in the #UK, my old colleague Dr. Adrian Bowyer is running a petition:
"New rules for manufacturers of medical device implants
We believe it should be made illegal for manufacturers of medical devices implanted into patients to regularly charge the patient for upgrades or maintenance."
It also calls for "IP" to be released if a manufacturer fails. I feel this subject is important enough to ask you to disseminate the link. Thank you.
@Daojoan "scared of AI" as in "scared of mold". Like mold, it's not going to become sentient and eat us all. But also like mold, it has a tendency to spoil previously good things, and my preferred amount of it in my (information) diet is zero with very few, carefully selected exceptions. Those exceptions, or the bries among the internet mold that is AI, are things like automatic transcription or translation.
"British Gas profits leap from £72m to £751m in a year"
You know those 4k a year energy prices you're all paying now....
Here is an un-paywalled link.
