speedrunning

I'm thinking of getting back into speedruns, but all 3 of my previous speed-games have gotten to the point that it's very difficult for me to even get close to them.

Game - My Best - WR then - WR now
Portal - 18 mins - 12 minutes - 5 minutes
HL2 - 2.5hrs - 1hr 45min - 50 minutes
ME - 1hr - 35mins - 27mins

@lizardsquid If I were to try speedrunning something I'd probably try going for games that aren't very optimized, the routing bit sounds more interesting to me than grinding times down.

(I also want to kinda try speedrunning tbh but IDK where or how to start)

speedrunning

@BatElite yeah, experimenting with routes is quite fun!

(the trick is to speedrun a game that you already enjoy playing a bunch)

speedrunning

@lizardsquid I could route Combat. :P
Also, I've been thinking of MMX7 but I haven't, because one of the bosses is borked and I don't know how to fix him. :<

re: speedrunning

@BatElite @lizardsquid how would you speedrun combat??

re: speedrunning

@Felthry @lizardsquid I was thinking of the 2001/2002 vaguely a reimagining, which I can understand you not knowing because AFAIK it's practically unheard of.

It's got a progression of levels and bosses though, which is doable to speedrun unlike the original. :P

re: speedrunning

@BatElite @lizardsquid that is some of the worst reviews we've ever seen

speedrunning

@lizardsquid Well the only one I've seen is a bit of an odd-ball one, here: youtube.com/watch?v=ozUYhnhYX2

But there's a handful of them, and there's also another series, The First Step, which is also about learning Speedruns. youtube.com/watch?v=wSI-HhyNpO

Seems like a nice way to scout out speedruns and see what ones might interest you, and learn where to start.

speedrunning

@lizardsquid it amuses me to occasionally go back to my speedrunning thesis and see just how outmoded the strats carefully laid out therein really are
two years is a long, long time when you go fast
