whinging about computers and programming

Why hasn't software engineering learnt from the mistakes of the past?

Why haven't they learnt from the successes?

Why are we still fucking using C?

whinging about computers and programming

@mallaidh that would be an interesting AU...

whinging about computers and programming

@mallaidh I... don't know what that is!

Again,the worst enemy of perfection is good enough
Still most of plan9's concept landend on modern linux and bsd

whinging about computers and programming

@lizardsquid I hear you. I spent all of the past two days debugging C++ code that was extending Node.js modules just so we could use a kernel interface that was introduced in the early 2000's for a feature which has been standard since the late 90's.

@lizardsquid I don't know what you're specifically thinking of, but looking at electrical engineering I think it's because too many people remain using stuff to deprecate or fix things:

I really don't know why there's never been an agreement to swap the negative and positive notation stuff; It's been known for decades, maybe a century.

The MOS in MOSFET referred to the materials they were made of. Often no longer correct either.

@lizardsquid I can only answer the last one: humans are monsters.

On C:retro-compatibility,retro-compatibility and retro-compatibility
Also its memory model is almost identical to most computer's

whinging about computers and programming,religious joke

@lizardsquid
Why God did create the world in 7 days?

Because he did't have to worry about retrocompatibility
