I want to play Magic The Gathering....
is there somewhere I can play it for free?
@lizardsquid Yes, try Cockatrice!
@SilviaFox
@lizardsquid
I made a Cockatrice account once... I should upload my new Commander deck and playtest it. It's dinosaur tribal!
@SilviaFox @lizardsquid Tabletop Simulator is a good option as well.
@ovadex @lizardsquid It's not free though
@SilviaFox @lizardsquid oops, my brain blanked out the free part. lol
@lizardsquid Do you have friends who play? That's how I got started.
@lizardsquid
See if your local game shop has any free events. Chances are you'll have to buy some cards at some point though. I can recommend preconstructed decks if you want.
@lizardsquid there's a few different applications that let you build and play online. There is a ftp version in the style of Hearthstone coming at some point but rn its closed beta sadly.
@lizardsquid Finding friends who have cards and decks is a good start. I've got some you could have, I don't really play any more.
@lizardsquid cockatrice, uhh OCTGN also has the art if you're willing to invest the HDD space (but unclear how well octgn runs on non-windows is)
Magic: The Gathering
@lizardsquid currently the best way to learn how (without somebody to teach you) is with Magic Duels, but it's kind of a frustrating program. you may opt to sign up for the Magic Arena beta, which is supposed to be much better
Magic: The Gathering
@bug unfortunately it's not available on my OS
Magic: The Gathering
@lizardsquid I could teach you in the near future
Magic: The Gathering
@SilviaFox ooo yay!
Magic: The Gathering
@lizardsquid join my server of queer mtg people of every experience level that plays via cockatrice and we’ll help you !
Magic: The Gathering
@atinyfairy oooo, that sounds fun!
Magic: The Gathering
@lizardsquid
I would teach you, but I'm more comfortable playing in person :p
@lizardsquid I can absolutely recommend Faeria; 'tis what I play now to scratch the M:tG itch! Free-to-play with astoundingly little pay-to-win or profiteering; runs on Linux and Android; fairly deep tactically*; cute, polished artwork; pleasant worldbuilding that supports but doesn't intrude upon gameplay; healthy online metagame..
*It's not quite M:tG, I think - but way, way more depth than Hearthstone et. al..
Magic: The Gathering
cockatrice is really cool and seems like a great way to play mtg!
if only I knew how...
