twitterActivityPubActor in one post

the first time someone mentions you @ twitter.activitypub.actor it scrapes your avatar, bio, header, and display name

it presents an AP actor so it looks like a profile in mastodon

it caches that info for a week (actually forever but if the cache is older than a week it will re-scrape it)

there is NO post mirroring involved

mentions are silently ignored, so are follow requests

my take on it is: it's harmless. it's not good but it's not worth your time

If you could spare a couple dollars to help me pay for groceries and my top-of-the-month bills, I'd really appreciate it. #transcrowdfund

the twitter crawler thing that everyone's mad about

@codl yeah, when I looked at it I couldn't see anything that was stealing people's content?

ramble, negative, video games, caps, angry

@pupy@chitter.xyz yeah, they really shouldn't be

ramble, negative, video games, caps, angry

@pupy@chitter.xyz the answer to this is that the DLC also updated the tools behind the scenes, so if they used certain helpful effort-saving things to make their mod, it's no longer compatible with the base game only.

The trend towards doing that has increased over time, given that it's now been 6.5 years since the DLC was released. (but it's still super frustrating)

ramble, negative, video games

@pupy@chitter.xyz it's easy when there's only one mod mananger... but then one mod only works with the other one. And then this mod over here requires you to use a different launcher. And then...

@grainloom that was my (short) experience with Ada.

"ah cool a super safe language"
*downloads it, starts reading a tutorial*
"w-wait, where's the safety from <x>? or from <y>?"

hot take with little backing so don't take it as truth: it's "safe" because it's safer than C.
