Once I got over the fact that the new companion is a cop (ew gross, but this was also 2019 so not as gross as if it was being released today), the story is pretty good!

It starts as an interesting mystery, but then gradually becomes very high action, and there are some really great twists along the way

I've been listening to the Fourth Doctor Adventures Series 8 (The Syndicate Master Plan), which is a series which introduces a brand new companion.
I'm really enjoying it so far, but I really wish I hadn't looked up the companion on the wiki, because there's a huge spoiler for this entire series right there on the first page.

Things that are like dark souls (that aren't just genre):
* You are undead
* The opening cinematic includes a vague lore dump, and then a list of some of the bosses you will fight
* The world has been driven mad by some event
* Managing stamina
* Checkpoints are sources of light that you sit at
* A maiden helps you level up

Things that aren't like dark souls:
* You can jump
* Sneaking
* Guard counters (more on this later)
* You have a goat-horse
* Non-hostile creatures

I wasn't going to get Elden Ring when it came out, but then... I did anyway.
(Guess the marketing worked lol)

My usual PC isn't good enough to run it, but my nesting partner's PC is good enough. It's plugged into the television, so I get this weird experience of it feeling like a console game.

The thing I wasn't expecting was: it feels so dark souls-y. Like, obviously it's in the same genre and from the same Devs, but it feels more like dark souls than even bloodborne does.
