I just played "Transmissions: Element 120", a hl2 mod.

It's really good! It has a really interesting take on hl2's gameplay and level design (it feels halfway between hl2 and a metroidvania), and manages to mix up the standard by making the atmosphere creepy and adding a bunch of extra mechanics.

It's free and short, so go play it!
