@Felthry it's an art genre, kind of like how Andy Whorhol made his art all about consumerism, vaporwave takes 80s consumer stuff and presents it again, but framed as art.

As an art/music genre, it's an extension of found art/plunderphoncs.

BUT it also resonated with the kind of quirky stuff that the internet likes, and it became a meme.
