Playful and competitive, Viento's day job is to maintain the filters at Spiral Coast that send clean water to Aquatic Park and other stuff elsewhere for processing. He spends most of his time on or under water and often wishes he had someone to share the sights of his underwater world with.

I just suddenly remembered I game I had back as a kid - TV Tycoon.
It was riding on the success of other tycoon games, but it.... didn't have any kind of graphics. It was all just text and menus. And it was basically completely impossible! I tried to play it several times, and every single time my TV station just burned through money until it went bankrupt only a couple of weeks after it started

MTG

I went to the pre-release event for the new magic set, Lost Caverns of Ixalan yesterday with a friend!

(In these events: everyone gets a bunch of packs of random cards, and they have to build a deck out of what they were given. There's then a mini tournament, where you play the decks against each other)

It was my first prerelease and I had a lot of fun. I think also it's a healthy way for me to engage with MTG.

Wallace and Gromit MicroFic

the only time Gromit seriously side-eyed Wallace was when Wallace hit a pedestrian and didn't comment on it. He didn't so much as flinch.

Gromit thought about it a lot, and had come to a confused belief that Wallace somehow didn't see it, despite looking directly at the man.

Over time, Gromit slowly convinced himself it never happened, until over a decade later, when Wallace casually noted that a game show contestant was wearing the same jacket as the man he hit.

re: personal, video game stores & such

Also, I think I've touched on this before, but like.
The humble monthly choice subscription used to have a to exist. There would be 10 games each month, but you only got to choose 3 of them.

Which is much more reasonable - you chose the games which looked interesting, and the choice made you feel more invested in the games you got.
Now it's just... Every month they give you 8 games. You don't choose anything.

My new year's resolution was to play 6 games to their end this year.

I'm going to see if I can do it. I've finished 2 games so far this year, which means I have to finish 2 games in November and 2 in December.

I'm currently playing Pseudoregalia, which I know is relatively short.

This month especially: there are 2 games that I would want, and the bundle is cheaper than buying those two games just on their own....

But I don't want any of the extra games. And I don't think I would actually play either of those games this month, so... what's the point in paying for them?

I've also put my monthly humble subscription on indefinite pause. I started itn to try and reduce impulse spending on steam sales, and it worked!

But looking back at the past year, I've played almost none of the dozens of games I've gotten out of it. I would have been better off just... spending the money on a game I was actually going to play.

personal, video game stores & such

I've decided I don't want any more games in my steam account. There's too many already, and I'm not comfy with the DRM.

So, I have gone through my steam wishlist, and added everything I can (and still at least somewhat want) to my GOG wishlist.
This gives me a baseline of a place to get a game DRM free.

I'm also going to make an effort to get stuff from itch more.

Beware the fearsome land catfish that has been known to crawl into and hide in mailboxes and eat the hands of unsuspecting victims.

a lot of flanderiztion in characterization is aggravating, especially in sherlock holmes. sherlock perpetually becomes more of a jerk (but in a way that i can only describe as "a nerotypical person's idea of someone who isn't", meant as pejoratively as possible, as one slings the insult "a poor man's idea of a rich man"), watson becomes more of an idiot, etc etc etc

but there is one detail that becomes more and more exaggerated with every adaptation that i'm okay with, and it is:

sherlock holmes as absolutely nightmare roommate

re: youtube [3]

I've been wanting to cancel it for months, constantly thinking "I'll cancel it once I get better at spending less time on it".

It's time to stop waiting. It's time to do things that I actually want to do.

re: youtube [2]

But I've realised that I've wasted too much time on youtube. I think it was a habit that grew out of a period where I only had time for an occasional short video, and couldn't engage in something involved.

But I spend too much time each day watching youtube and feeling miserable. Instead, I'm going to try and work on my hobbies and engage with fiction I actually enjoy.

Yesterday I closed most of the youtube tabs I had open on my comptuer.
And today I cancelled youtube premium.

youtube [1]

In December 2022, I started paying for youtube premium.

The main reason: I had found some videos which helped me go to sleep, but being interrupted halfway through with a loud ad was causing issues.

After some time, this reason went away (I found other ways to get to sleep), but I kept it around because I like watching videos on my phone on the way to work, and not having to deal with ads or the video stopping when I switched to a different app was nice.
