any suggested places to start?

(I am very experienced in functional programming, but would also like to see stuff that assumes you aren't)

so many people get worked up over missing accents on letters, everyone's a diacritic these days

the current x86 situation demonstrating at least three of the three hard problems in computer science:

naming things
cache invalidation
off-by-one errors
capitalism fucks everything up
