goodbye nixos

I've used it for almost two years now - I'll be sad to see it go, but it must.

positive note, though: I can just backup my configuration files, and if the other OS's I try don't work out?

I just need to copy those files back and type `nixos-install` and everything will be EXACTLY how I left it

goodbye nixos

I can't handle this experimental operating system anymore

when it works - it's truly amazing, an gives me hope for better computing systems in the future

but it breaks so much. There's so many times when I've been like "oh I'll just follow this tutorial" and I can't because nixos gets in the way. So many times where I just want to play a game and I can't because I don't know what all the dependencies are

I love this operating system, I just can't use it anymore

also this, whatever this is (this is more rendering than art; though, I guess rendering is art?) mastodon.art/media/C3ulpKxCllH

ethics/morality opinions

"vengeance" is petty and dangerous.
"justice" is a mislabel, for vengeance at best, tactics of oppression at worst.

both are products of a perspective that values retribution over prevention, punishment over safety, and structure over freedom.

Like holy fuck software today is extremely garbage. No one gives a shit about optimization and you need a beefy computer just to browse the web. Fucking hell.

how I focus in class

I have to:

* not bring my laptop
* turn off my phone
* write colour-coded notes at literally every moment of the lecture

otherwise I get distracted and I can't focus back on the lecture again

videogame gripe

there was a cool video game that ran on like... the quake engine? or something

it's a multiplayer team game where one side is humans and the other is all these weird aliens

but I could never get into it because the only people who were still playing it were too experienced and there was nowhere I could learn without getting immediately destroyed

Google no longer indexing decade old articles (that means 2008!)

Time to duck duck go, if you haven't already.

internet politics

casual reminder that google's endgoal isn't connecting you with links to resources but rather providing you with google-sanctioned answers that never take you off of their site

Idea for an enchanted item for your rpg campaign: The Ring of Spontaneous Potato Generation. Every few turns, the Ring of Spontaneous Potato Generation has a chance to spontaneously generate a potato. There is nothing special about the potato at all, it's perfectly ordinary and average. See what uses your players can come up with for this largely useless item!

hot take, flirting

it's not flirting if it's not interactive - throwing pickup lines and getting no response is literally the opposite of flirting and that's (part of) why it feels so wrong and gross

#Pico8 I'm working on splitscreen as I was curious on how people would have done it. I'm going crazy with bitwise operations withing pico-8
