that is the only way i can reason every single way in which i've been betrayed and abused

meeting "computer people" as someone whose only friend for their youngest formative years was the computer, was the mistake. if the computer is the only friend you have you cannot trust other people who said the computer is the only friend they had too. they're the enemy

computers are deeply, intimately personal to me, and i feel fucking desolate right now

computers were a mistake not because of the computer. computers were a mistake because they attracted the worst in the worst people and hurt the normal people like me in the sidelines

reflecting on this, this goes beyond just retrocomputing as a hobby. some of these people i've known for over a decade and have had to cut ties with because of AI deepthroating unveiling red flags i should've seen years ago. a huge chunk of my social life (whatever left is of it after years of sexual harassment and DARVO targeted at me) is just gone. i am so tired

it's surprising how little the average fediverse user cares about personal boundaries

had a dream i'd gotten an implant that would let me see a hud and take pictures with my eyes and meta glassholery aside the robot part of me is sad it wasn't real because the dream felt so so affirming

people i used to respect are either using AI for their projects or praising projects that do and this is the loneliest i've felt in the retrocomputing hobby

if your defense of a tool is "you're just not using it right" then it's either not what the person you're arguing against needs, or it's not even a good tool

i just took down a forum i haven't posted in for like a decade because i tried to reset my password and apparently their software crashed horribly

forced dark mode is great if you hate people with astigmatism

realising also that as a professional and recreational computer toucher another one of my issues against gen/agentic AI is that it's a tool to make people touch the computer _less_. why would you want that? either touch the computer or don't, stop getting something else to do it for you and saying it's the best thing in the world
