yeah i flip out a lot. sorry. if you can stand it tho (and plenty of my friends say i'm not unreasonable, which helps the gaslighting that some people will try to do to me saying i'm too angry to have friends or smth) i guarantee you we will have a nice time discussing old tech

Show thread

i have too much trauma to be nice and cute and socially marketable online

it extremely pisses me off more so because of c-PTSD from being doubted and ignored and told to shut the fuck up my entire life by people who should know better and refuse to. i'm tired of being dismissed and shut down when i actually know something

Show thread

this shit pisses me off because i've already run into it before and it took me hours of troubleshooting why is it i couldn't send serial commands to a piece of 1986 tech only for someone with 3.5k twitter followers to tell someone "yes any usb to serial will work"

RT @maplesbian@twitter.com

so apparently you can get USB to DB9 cables marketed as being RS232 compatible when in fact they output TTL levels. lovely

you bet your ass if i ever get there i'll stop trusting myself (i already don't very much)

Show thread

full offense, slowly learning not to trust anyone with over 1k followers on twitter

at least with retro computer stuff. these days everything is TTL and nobody cares

Show thread

i'm not trying to gatekeep by saying that you NEED to know the difference between TTL and RS232. i'm saying if you're trying to do serial stuff without it, you WILL have a bad time, through nobody's fault but your own

Show thread

retro tech doesn't care about your sensory overload. retro tech predates a lot of people trying to get into it today. you gotta learn the stuff eventually or you might end up, at best wasting a lot of hours in frustration, at worst frying expensive hardware

Show thread

man if you don't want to learn the difference between TTL serial and RS232 serial you will end up having a bad time trying to get into retro tech

i wanted to call myself sapphic more but now because of Identity Politics by principle i need to call myself lesbian in order to ward off exclusionists from getting the wrong idea about me

Show thread

i like the word "sapphic" because i like that it relates to Sappho. i don't like "sapphic" to mean "not lesbian". i am a lesbian, fuck you.

and if anyone's thinking it, the robots.txt file was originally without asterisks, i only added them after noticing it didn't like it. i also tried changing the order of allow/disallow (which canonically shouldn't matter) and twitter still thinks it's not allowed to load that url

Show thread

i think twitter's robots.txt parser is just wrong and i'll have to live with twitter being the only website that doesn't embed my opengraph cards correctly

Show thread

i finally fixed the opengraph directives on my website so twitter shows previews maple.pet/
