3. "Isn't it hyperbole to call this abusive--" nope, sorry, a binding arbitration clause and a class action preclusion clause in a ToS for any social site is abusive. Binding arb clauses are abusive, period.

Right, I woke up to this having gone way out of my audience of "my friends who were signing up for Cohost accounts", so a few notes:

@maplesbian@twitter.com I think they don’t understand that for platforms with no advertising, more users means higher costs
They’re so used to being the product that they treat these services like ad platforms
Dreamwidth isn’t trying to steal cohost’s customers i assure you

the thing that turns me off on cohost the most isn't the unchecked boilerplate ToS

it's the kind of people who have immediately started defending it tooth and nail like they can't do wrong and seeing any other website as competition

because i've already been in a cult once

oh yeah i want to punch down so bad on cohost because i run a direct competitor. yes

Show thread

sometimes i feel like i should shut up and just let people eat their own tails like a fucked up social media ouroboros

i have no horse in this race. i don't use cohost or dreamwidth. but sometimes y'all piss me off so much i can't keep my mouth fucking shut

what i use instead is lesbiaboard. we don't even have a ToS. y'all have fun elsehwere

but no everything these days needs to be seen as competition because that's what fucking capitalism brain did to you

god forbid people who built a website 14 years ago point out what people building a website now might be doing wrong

also dreamwidth was founded in 2008??? but no this person Must have a Bone To Pick

i'm so tired of some people's lack of reading comprehension honestly

Show thread

there are people complaining about thread going "you're lying! cohost does none of these thnigs! you can absolutely advertise on it and nothing bad happens!"

so because cohost doesn't enforce their verifiably badly written ToS it's malicious to point out how it's badly written?

Okay, people keep asking "but what even does that MEAN (it means "we have no idea what we're doing") so let's do this: why Cohost's Terms of Service are terrible and abusive and you should not agree to them unless they are radically changed twitter.com/rahaeli/status/158
